General Purpose of Job:  


The Clinical Nurse Educator, develops, plans and implements educational activities to foster the advancement of competency and professional development in nursing associates and medical assistants. Integral to the role, the educator must be competent in career development, education, and project management.  According to the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, intertwined elements include educator/facilitator, educator/academic liaison, change agent/team member, researcher/consultant, leader/communicator, and collaborator/advisor/mentor.


Essential Duties:


This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis.  Team members may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader.  Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.


Applies to All Clinical Education



  • Assesses associates’ learning needs and develops, plans, and delivers education including orientation, in-service, and continuing education.         

  • Utilizes evaluation and outcome data to revise educational content to achieve desired clinical outcomes.

  • Document educational activities in accordance with organizational policy and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

  • Collaborate with peers, interdisciplinary colleagues, and academic partners to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Actively participates in committees, task forces, projects, and planning meetings.

  • Serve as a change agent to facilitate evidence-based practice changes that promote positive patient and workforce outcomes.

  • Integrates ethical principles into all educational activities and professional interactions.

  • Creates and maintains an effective learning environment for a diverse adult learner population.


Registered Nurse (RN) Education



  • Integrate research and evidence-based practice into nursing education and professional development opportunities.

  • Actively participates in initiatives that support nursing goals and align with the organization’s strategic plan.

  • Incorporate the Transformational Model into nursing education and applicable initiatives.

  • Role models lifelong learning and supports the ongoing professional development of nurses


Medical Assistant (MA) Education



  • Develop and deliver role-specific education and competency validation for Medical Assistants, including onboarding, clinical workflows, scope of practice, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to ensure MA education aligns with practice standards, delegation guidelines, and team-based care models.

  • Support professional growth and career development pathways for Medical Assistant







Job Requirements





















General Requirements • Current State of Michigan license as a Registered Nurse • Basic Life Support (BLS)
Work Experience • Minimum 5 years of experience as an RN • Medical, Surgical, and/or Intermediate bedside experience within the previous 3 years. • Clinical Education or teaching experience within the previous 3 years.
Education • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Competent use of MS Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel • Interpersonal skills for effective communication. • Accountable for professional development and maintenance of competencies • Excellent attendance • Project and time management skills • Able to handle stressful situations and manage conflict.
