TITLE: Safety Lead  2nd Shift 5p-1a

DEPARTMENT: Safety                                                  

REPORTS TO: EHS Manager                                      

LOCATION: Southwire West GA DC

Job Description

Summary

Under the general supervision of the EHS Manager, the safety lead supports the lean culture, assisting management and team members in achieving all safety goals.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Safe Start training for all employees.
  • Conduct and manage Mobile Equipment Operator training.
  • Assists EHS Manager in identifying and eliminating safety hazards.
  • Assists DC personnel and management with safety related problems.
  • Orders safety items and supplies.
  • Maintains and updates safety displays.
  • Performs/reviews/revises Job Hazard Analysis throughout DC.
  • Promotes IFE reporting throughout DC and assists in follow-up with employees (i.e., Tablets, Advaris, etc.).
  • Orders/installs signs and/or notices throughout DC.
  • Assists in auditing DC areas and contractor compliance.

Related Duties

  • Files and maintains specific safety documents and data.
  • Leads/assists in incident analysis for the DC.
  • Reports all repairs to supervisor and maintenance department. 
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Trains DC personnel, contractors, and management on all safety related topics.
  • Performs any other assigned duties within the job classification skill level.

Skills and Abilities

  • Certified Safe Start Trainer
  • Certified train the trainer for mobile equipment
  • Must be able to interpret NFPA- Life Safety Code and OSHA- 1910 General Industry Standards.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instruction.
  • Must be able to use a calculator.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point) and demonstrate those skills.
  • Must have good verbal communication skills.
  • Must be good at time management.

Working Conditions

  • A large amount of time will be either standing or walking.
  • Exposed to heat in the summer and moderate cold in the winter.
  • Exposed to noise.
  • Exposed to lift trucks and other DC machinery.
  • Job will require light to moderate lifting.
  • Job will require frequent climbing of ladders.

Education and Experience Required

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read and write.

Safety and Loss Control

  • Instruct employees concerning the hazards of the job, and how to avoid injury and property damage.
  • Instill safety awareness in employees through personal contacts, and by conducting group safety meetings.
  • Investigate the cause of all accidents, even those that result in minor injuries, and complete reports as required.
  • To be thoroughly familiar with, and to instruct employees in emergency evacuation and other emergency procedures.
  • Seek the assistance and advice of Safety Representatives on matters concerning safety practices, policies and/or procedures.
  • See that all injuries, accidents, and incidents, are promptly and properly treated, and investigated.
  • See that essential safety devices and personal protective equipment are provided and used as required.
  • Take prompt corrective action whenever unsafe conditions and/or human errors are noted.
  • Observe DC safety rules and regulations.
