The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with

“real world” applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities
· Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and

will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.

· You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational

leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.

· You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and

offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and

community service /volunteer initiatives.

· You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to

a world-class program community.

· Finally, our rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities.

Long Description

Project Summary 

This role is part of the HV Project Management Organization (PMO). The intern will serve as a Project Support Coordinator reporting to the PMO Director. The position will support project execution, process improvement, and PMO operational maturity.

The role will provide support to multiple active initiatives related to project operating procedures, governance, metrics, and PMO standards.

 

 

 

Description of Responsibilities 

Amongst the responsibilities, and skills required:. 

Project Support Coordinator

  • Map current PM processes to identify gaps, variations, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with PMO leadership to standardize templates, workflows, and process documentation.
  • Support improvements to PMO scheduling processes and workflows.
  • Develop, enhance, or maintain KPI dashboards, metric reporting, and PMO toolsets.

Hands‑On Project Management Support

  • Assist with planning activities, milestone tracking, and creation of project schedules.
  • Conduct risk analysis and support risk mitigation efforts.
  • Help prepare project reports, stakeholder communications, cost reviews, and meeting materials.
  • Gain exposure to real project-management decision making in a dynamic and evolving environment.

In this role, the Co‑Op will gain hands‑on exposure to a Project Management Organization, including project governance, PMO processes, and reporting framework. The intern will develop a practical understanding of commercial and contractual considerations in project execution, as well as direct experience with project financials, budgeting, and evaluating project profitability. The role also provides meaningful experience in process improvement, applying structured tools and methods to streamline workflows and enhance PMO effectiveness.

 

Qualifications and Experience Requirements 

Required qualifications include

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Operations Management, Business Major, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Certificate (e.g., CAPM) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in project management, process improvement, or structured problem‑solving environments.
