Job Summary:

Seeking a motivated and technically adept Intern/Co-op to join our engineering team. The intern/co-op will be given challenging, productive assignments similar to those of an entry-level, full-time engineer, allowing him/her to experience a sense of accomplishment and contribution. The position will assist the Power Systems Solutions Division in various electrical engineering projects and initiatives in power electronic systems for power quality applications. This role offers an opportunity for professional development and growth in the field of Electrical Engineering. Individual will be expected to perform activities relating to analysis, test/evaluation, determination, and presentation.

Although Electrical Engineering will be the focus, the student will also interact frequently with Mechanical, Control and Software engineers.  This allows the co-op to understand what role each engineering discipline plays in a manufacturing company.  Many of the concepts that the co-op learns in this position can be applied to other industries.


Responsibilities:


The student will work under the direct supervision and guidance of an experienced engineer and perform similar tasks.  Responsibilities will increase as appropriate as the co-op term progresses.  Typical assignments are:
  • Investigate and troubleshoot problems
  • Design and optimize hardware and software of power electronic equipment
  • Perform component and system level testing including the development of test plans and reports
  • Function as project manager by writing and implementing projects
  • Purchase components and equipment

Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Must have verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees.
  • Strong Mathematical skills.
  • Adept with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
  • Preferred focus on Power Engineering, familiarity with basic electrical engineering concepts, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • CAD design software (Solidworks and/or AutoCAD preferred)
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical tools including multi-meters and basic electrical hand tools.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple electrical schematics.
