Position Summary

•     Responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens for the diagnosis and treatment of disease under the supervision of a Medical Technician, Medical Technologist, Section Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory Manager, or Medical Director.

    Principal Accountabilities

    Education

    • High School diploma

    Licenses and Certification

    • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT-ASCP) certification
      • 5 years of experience in lieu of certification

    Experience and Skills

    • 2 years phlebotomy experience.

    Physical Activities

    • Intermittent hand manipulation required.
    • Intermittent lifting and carrying of 20 pounds.

    Role Specific Responsibilities

    • Perform basic venipunctures and capillary collections.
    • Register patients and specimens in the laboratory system.
    • Label specimens according to policy.
    • Transport specimens to the lab.
    • Maintain supplies and cleanliness of phlebotomy stations.
    • Assist with outpatient and inpatient phlebotomy needs.
    • Train new phlebotomy staff.
    • Participate in laboratory improvement projects.
    • Handle specimen processing and reference lab send-outs.
    • Assist in problem resolution for specimen collection.

    Compensation (Commensurate with experience):

    $18.28 - $27.42
