Southbridge Care Homes provides exceptional acquisition, management, and redevelopment services for long-term care homes and retirement communities across Ontario. Reporting to the Regional Director, the Retirement Home Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of our retirement community. This individual will ensure a high standard of care, safety, and quality of life for all residents, while managing staff, budgets, compliance, facilities and customer service for staff, families, residents and volunteers. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, experience in senior care, and a commitment to providing exceptional service.

This is a full-time position based in a professional office environment. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional need for overtime during peak periods. The role involves prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer. The employee must be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. Physical ability to assist residents and perform light lifting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Resident Care & Services

  • Ensure all residents receive high-quality care and support tailored to their individual needs.
  • Oversee admission, orientation, and discharge procedures.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive community atmosphere.
  • Respond promptly to concerns or complaints from residents and families.

Staff Management

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff across care, administration, housekeeping, and food service teams.
  • Schedule shifts to maintain proper staffing levels and ensure continuity of care.
  • Foster a positive and supportive working environment.
  • Ensure all staff are trained on hire and annually thereafter on all mandatory training requirements.

Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., local, state, federal).
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by governing bodies.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Coordinate with healthcare professionals and external agencies as needed.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the retirement home’s operating budget.
  • Monitor expenses and revenues, ensuring cost-effective service delivery.
  • Oversee billing, payroll, and financial reporting in collaboration with the finance team.

Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with residents, families, staff, and the local community.
  • Organize events and activities that enhance residents’ social, emotional, and physical well-being.
  • Promote the retirement home’s services to potential residents and families.

Marketing

  • Accountable for developing an implementing marketing strategy geared towards increasing occupancy levels.
  • Obtain and maintain community partnerships

 

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • 1-3 years in a senior living environment and experience with the Retirement Home Act (Required)
  • Previous management experience considered an asset.
  • ***Registered Practical Nurse /Registered Nurse with current good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. (Required)  
  • Effective leadership, organizational and relationship building skills
  • Ability to analyse and problem solve complex resident and staff situations within a multidisciplinary team is essential
  • Knowledge of computerized software and Resident Care Management systems is an asset
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of aging-related issues, elder care best practices, and relevant regulations.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, scheduling, and staff supervision.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain).
  • A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of hire date.
  • Completion of a 2 Step TB Skin test within the last 12 months.
