Responsibilities:
Byers Engineering, a MasTec company, is seeking a full-time OSP Designer in support of a large-scale telecommunications project. The OSP/ISP Engineer must work cohesively with the Field Engineering/Construction Manager.
In addition, you will:
- Receive field data collected, analyze local and wide area network systems, and develop the most cost-efficient fiber network route design in accordance with customer specifications and guidelines
- Read and understand highway/road prints, utility maps, and as-builts to identify conflicts with existing facilities
- Collaborate with any necessary vendor, as well as internal GIS and CAD teams, to produce all required documentation for application packages
- Follow very specific and detailed procedures already implemented, while remaining flexible enough to readily adapt to changing standards and procedures without notice
- Coordinate with the project team for forecasting, scheduling, resource management, and quality assurance
- Review project deliverables for accuracy and apprise the project management team of risks, issues, and recommended mitigations
- Work in tandem with various managers across the project to identify scope creep, manage to change orders, and complete routine billing
- Ensures the integrity of the customer access network is maintained and provides support for the deployment of access technologies
- Assist with as-built package completion and delivery, as well as billing closeout
Qualifications:
About You:
- Sound OSP engineering experience deploying fiber optic networks
- Knowledge of engineering principles within the OSP job-related functional area, including general practices, procedures, and industry standards
- Knowledge of fiber optic counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in a high-density fiber environment
- Experience working on all aspects of telecom with knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards
- Knowledge of engineering tools, including AutoCAD, OCalc, 3-GIS, ArcGIS, ESRI, IQGeo or any similar GIS/KMZ platforms
- Proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Google Sheets, and Google Drive
- Experience with the Corning FlexNAP family of products
- Knowledge of AT&T's proprietary engineering systems
- Experience with obtaining necessary agreements, licenses, or any other type of approval regarding deeds, leases, easements, and rights-of-way (ROW)
- Experience with outside and inside plant in aerial and/or underground facilities, with a thorough knowledge of all issues related to federal, state, or local government permitting, as well as pole and conduit licensing procedures with utility permitting agencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field is preferred, OR Telecomm, Engineering, or Drafting completed courses and a diploma from a technical school or community college
- Basic operating knowledge of CAD systems is a priority
