This role is designed to attract high-performing university or technical students, aiming to provide projects focused on driving Smith+Nephew forward, ensuring their participation in the program results in mutual benefits of learning and experience accumulation. Successful candidates for the internship program will gain valuable experience in the medical device industry, which could shape their career decisions and create future employment opportunities.
What will you be doing?
Provide sustaining with guided supervision in the following tasks:
Operations video recording
Time study of the Creation of line balance
Labor standard calculation
Line Inventory definition (WIP)
Layout drawing and Implementation
Savings calculation
SPQDC change control of Standard work Kaizen events
Standard work and 5'S visual sheets development
Value stream mapping Kaizen
Space release kaizen events
Planned Start Date: January 2026
Program Length: 6 months
Location: Alajuela, Coyol
What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Active student of Industrial Engineering
English proficiency level B2 (Intermediate)
Competencies:
English Proficiency over 50% (A2+ according to CEFR).
MS Office basic proficiency (Basic Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Basic skills for the use of simulation tools or models (eVSM).
Basic Statistical Analysis abilities
Basic Knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution System)
Basic Detailed production process knowledge and detection of improvements/elimination of waste (Enter clean rooms and work with manufacturing engineers).
Skills: assertive communication, teamwork, good interpersonal relationships, results-oriented, time management, analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail.

What you'll do
- The intern will assist with operations video recording, time studies, labor standard calculations, and various Kaizen events. They will also be involved in layout drawing, inventory definition, and savings calculations under guided supervision.
