Overview:

Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Senior Sterile Services Technician for a Full Time, first shift role in Suffolk, VA!

Hours are primarily from 7A or 8A to 3PM or 4P Monday to Friday. No dedicated call schedule but would be expected to be avaialbel for staff call outs as needed.

Duties include:

Staff assignments, validation checks, OR coordination's, staff supervision and support, assisting vendors with required tray needs.

The Senior Central Sterile Services Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies used in patient care. This position operates and maintains sterilization equipment according to established procedures and standards. Examines medical equipment for defects and reports faulty equipment to appropriate personnel. Ensure compliance with all established local and federal health and safety regulations. The Senior Central Sterile Services Technician functions as a preceptor and educator for new team members. The senior technician provides educational support to team members through hands on training, orientation and serves as a subject matter expert in sterile services. Senior Technician manages work allocations for peers within the department.

About the department: 

Sentara Obici Hospital is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital, with an average of 5,000 cases per year. The 40-person team supports seven operating rooms, and performs a diverse range of procedures including general, ortho, podiatry, vascular, GYN, spine, and plastics, utilizing advanced systems like DaVinci robotic technology. The team, comprising RNs, surgical assistants, surgical technologists and OR techs, works across Obici and Bell Harbor hospitals, with opportunities to assist in Obstetrics as needed. The hospital values both new graduates and experienced professionals, offering amenities like free parking, shuttle service, and a supportive, collaborative environment.

Sterile Services includes a tenured 12-member team with an experienced leadership team in place.
 

Education

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required

Certification/Licensure

  • BLS within 90 days of hire Required

  • Unexpired Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required

Experience

  • 3 years of related experience required

  • Ability to transition between tasks efficiently required

  • Team work and communication skills required

  • EVS, Acute hospital experience or Hospital inventory experience, preferred.

  • Previous supervisor or leadership experience preferred.
