About this role

The Planner I (Production Support) is an entry-level role that supports planning and coordination activities across production control and yard services functions. The Planner I contributes to scheduling, work package preparation, progress tracking, and coordination with production teams and supporting departments to ensure smooth execution of ship construction activities. This role may support outfitting trades, structural trades, or services such as scaffolding, ventilation, rigging, or temporary electrical systems, depending on assignment.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. The hours for this position are: 2 pm - 10:30 pm (Monday to Friday).

What you’ll do

  • Schedule work packages or yard service activities within defined windows to align with project milestones, zone schedules, and the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).

  • Coordinate with Area Managers, Trade Supervisors, and Service Teams to ensure service or production readiness.

  • Track physical and transactional progress for assigned scope and report status in planning tools and backend systems.

  • Support issue resolution by identifying delays, investigating root causes, and escalating as needed for corrective actions.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to extract scope and support planning activities.

  • Support the maintenance of detailed critical plans and ensure alignment with broader project-level schedules.

  • Interface with other planning and scheduling teams to ensure scope, dependencies, and handoffs are accurately captured and coordinated.

  • Assist in developing work orders for yard service activities including setup and takedown for scaffolding, rigging, ventilation, and temporary electrical services.

  • Maintain and update planning documents, reports, and service plans using CAD tools and planning software under guidance.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support smooth execution of shipyard operations.

What you’ll bring

  • Up to 2 years planning/scheduling experience in a large manufacturing/heavy industry environment, preferably in the shipbuilding industry
  • Meet requirements of Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian Government Security clearance.

  • Familiarity with yard services such as ventilation, scaffolding, rigging, and electrical systems.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering technology, construction, operations, or marine programs is preferred
  • Knowledge of safety and operational standards related to shipyard services is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of planning and scheduling systems (e.g., MRP, Microsoft Project).

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with training or guidance.

  • Exposure to or willingness to learn CAD/CAM tools for layout and service planning.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Attention to detail and a methodical, analytical approach to tasks.

  • Collaborative mindset with ability to learn and contribute in a team environment.

  • Ability to interpret information and identify potential scheduling or service gaps under supervision.

The estimated salary for this position is $73,800 - $90,200.  In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity.  The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
