About this role

The Planner I (Detailed Planning) in shipbuilding plays a crucial role in supporting the planning and execution of projects by applying broad theoretical knowledge and adhering to established procedures. This entry-level position focuses on straightforward assignments and contributes to the smooth operation of shipbuilding projects by collaborating with other departments and receiving guidance from senior planners.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

 What you’ll do

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of production schedules, work packages, and material requisitions based on project requirements and established guidelines.
  • Use prescribed tools and policies to collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify potential risks, bottlenecks, or opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure all planning activities adhere to established standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to confirm project milestones are met and that all resources are available for execution.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of plans, schedules, and progress reports, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Apply guidelines and policies to identify and resolve issues or escalate them to senior planners when necessary.
  • Participate in training opportunities to develop skills and gain knowledge of shipbuilding practices and planning systems.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, project management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Entry-level position: prior internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing or shipbuilding environment is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate across departments.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset to evaluate issues and implement solutions within defined guidelines.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in planning, scheduling, and documentation.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adjust to dynamic shipbuilding environments and processes.

The estimated salary for this position is $73,800 - $90,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
