This is a per diem, non-benefited position generally working weekdays from 8:30am-5pm. Hours will vary as needed (start times generally ranging from 7:30-8:30am). Located in La Jolla at the Shiley Pavilion in the Torrey Pines neighborhood. The ideal candidate will work at least 2 days/week (primarily Tu/Th). No weekends or holidays. Training is ideally full time hours for a few weeks.

What you'll do:
- Back office duties and front office duties as needed/assigned
- Perform patient intakes
- Scribing for the dermatologist
- Assisting with diagnostic testing, phototherapy UVB/UVA, laser, and surgical procedures
- Completing clerical duties including scheduling patient visits, taking supply inventory and managing medication authorization approvals
- Float to other sites within the dermatology & mohs specialties depending upon department needs
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment, and organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician’s practice.
- Assisting in preparing patients for examination/procedures
- Assisting physicians with procedures
- Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
- Collecting patient data in person and by phone and documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
- Administering medications specifically directed by the physician
- Performing vital sign documentation
- Scheduling of appointments and procedures
- Complete and accurate message taking
- Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
- Order and referral entry
- Acquisition of pre-certifications
- Setting up of cases in EPIC
- Basic registration and updating of demographics
- Administering medications specifically directed by the physician and performing vital sign documentation
- Scheduling of appointments and procedures
- Complete and accurate message taking
- Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
- Order and referral entry
- Acquisition of pre-certifications and setting up of cases in EPIC
- Basic registration and updating of demographics
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program OR hold a Medical Assistant Certification OR have a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
- BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year MA experience in an outpatient setting
- Experience with the following: Epic experience, surgical experience, wound care and/or suture removal, outpatient clinic experience.
