Position Summary

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for managing warehouse materials inventory and ensuring the accurate, timely allocation of materials to the production team. This role is critical to maintaining efficient production operations, optimizing inventory levels, and supporting overall business performance.

Purpose

Oversee inventory operations to ensure accurate tracking, efficient storage, and timely distribution of materials to meet production demands.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management & Oversight

  • Manage store, track, and distribute inventory throughout the warehouse.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels to support production requirements.
  • Conduct daily cycle counts and regular physical inventories; reconcile and resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain inventory control procedures and best practices to optimize stock levels and minimize costs.
  • Provide subject matter advice on inventory planning and control.

Material Allocation & Production Support

  • Allocate materials to production based on schedules and requirements.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials to production areas to prevent downtime.
  • Collaborate with production managers to forecast material needs and adjust inventory levels accordingly.

 

Data Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions including receipts, transfers, and shipments.
  • Enter real-time data into inventory management systems.
  • Track and report key inventory metrics, usage trends, and discrepancies.
  • Communicate inventory status, stock needs, and material usage patterns to management.

Quality Control

  • Inspect incoming materials for accuracy, quality, and compliance with company standards.
  • Address quality issues with suppliers and coordinate returns or replacements as needed.
  • Provide materials review and perform QA holds on new direct materials and items.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with purchasing, logistics, and production teams to ensure smooth inventory flow.
  • Proactively communicate inventory issues, shortages, or risks to relevant departments.
  • Assist in resolving inventory-related problems or delays.

Compliance, Safety & Organization

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe materials room and warehouse environment.
  • Participate in safety training and continuous improvement initiatives.

Warehouse and Production Support

  • Documentation & Scanning
    • Scan all Meat BOLs (Bills of Lading) to ensure accurate records.
    • Scan incoming direct material BOLs for proper tracking.
    • Scan all outgoing shipping BOLs to maintain shipment records.
  • Warehouse Support
    • Assist warehouse staff with organizing and managing inventory in: 
      • Raw material cooler
      • Finished goods cooler
      • Freezers
    • Support order preparation and picking as needed.
  • Order & Shipment Preparation
    • Print all outgoing orders for the day, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
    • Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for warehouse use.
  • Purchase & Inventory Management
    • Create Purchase Orders (POs) for warehouse replenishment.
    • Monitor inventory levels and notify relevant teams of low-stock items.
  • Process & Efficiency Support
    • Assist in improving organization, labeling, and workflow in storage areas.
    • Support team with any ad hoc inventory-related tasks to maintain smooth operations.

Forklift Operation

  • Operate forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain valid forklift certification and follow all safety standards.

Daily Expectations

  • Direct materials room is clean and always organized.
  • Daily inventory counts are completed by 9:00 AM.
  • All pallets must have a HI-VIS load tag with item number and count clearly visible from the warehouse floor.
  • All unused films must be bagged and tagged.
  • All unused materials must be returned to their assigned locations.
  • Show independent thinking and decision making to ensure the successful distribution of production materials to personnel and the production lines

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • Proven experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, or related role.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of inventory control principles.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and data analysis tools.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend process improvements.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy materials as required.


Languages: Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Degree or coursework in supply chain management, logistics, or a related field preferred.

 

 What We Offer 

  • The expected compensation for this role is $60,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be discussed during the interview process.
