What will your role be? 
The Supplier Development Engineer leads on-site supplier development, recovery, and industrial performance improvement initiatives in high-risk or strategically critical supplier environments. The role operates in a high-mobility capacity, traveling approximately 80% of the time, primarily within North America. Working directly with supplier leadership and operations teams, the Engineer diagnoses systemic issues, drives execution of recovery and improvement plans, and develops sustainable supplier capabilities. The role serves as a key interface between suppliers and leadership to ensure accountability, transparency, and long-term industrial performance.

Job Description

  • Conduct in-depth industrial and operational assessments using structured methodologies such as 8D, Pareto analysis, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
  • Develop, negotiate, and execute supplier recovery and development plans with defined milestones, timelines, and measurable performance improvements
  • Establish and maintain real-time Work in Progress (WIP) visibility to ensure production commitments are supported by physical inventory and capacity evidence
  • Drive industrial stabilization and capability development to align supplier processes with technical, quality, and volume requirements
  • Lead corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks and prevent recurrence of delivery or performance issues
  • Provide structured executive-level reporting, including performance status, risk assessments, and improvement progress to General Management and supplier leadership
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Purchasing, Procurement, NPI, Quality, and Supplier Performance Management teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field; Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent certifications are highly desirable
  • Strong technical proficiency in industrial engineering and continuous improvement tools, including Lean Manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping, and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Proven ability to lead complex supplier development and recovery initiatives in fast-paced manufacturing environments
  • Experience working directly with suppliers in industrial, operations, or supplier quality roles
  • Strong communication and influence skills, including engagement with senior and executive-level supplier leadership
