Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is seeking a Senior PR/Communications Specialist to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Senior PR/Communications Specialist is responsible for providing a wide range of internal and external communication services to support the Company's commitment to provide effective and integrated messaging and enhancement of the brand.

Responsibilities

  • Has a thorough understanding of communication fundamentals learned through academic exposure and/or professional experience, including communication models, barriers, purpose, and principles.
  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise and influences decision-makers on key communications.
  • Has the ability to understand and retain complex and technical subject matter and communicate such topics in a way that’s understandable to the broad workforce and the general public.
  • Understands the complexity and nuances of internal and external communications for a government contractor with a workforce of over 3,000 located across multiple areas with varying job duties, shifts, etc. This includes understanding the corporate affiliate, federal customer and regulatory, and stakeholder partnerships.
  • Possesses strong writing and editing skills and a questioning attitude when executing all tasks, especially when creating, reviewing, and disseminating highly visible, high-stakes communications products for the company and on behalf of executive leadership.
  • Analyzes and defines communication objectives by gaining a comprehensive understanding of the situation, business, culture, and political environment and defining what is to be achieved.
  • Establishes and fosters positive relationships with employees and managers at all levels, external stakeholders, and the public. Represents the company at internal and external activities and events as assigned. Works directly with executives and government leaders, elected and appointed, to develop consistent communication of strategic messages to align informed support of the company mission, as needed.
  • Determines best communication strategies then develops and implements internal and external campaigns to educate and inform employees, stakeholders, and the public on specified topics related to the company mission.
  • Independently composes, edits, and prepares materials, including company publications (e.g. content for internal newsletter), group emails, intranet pages, presentations, executive talking points, reports, social media, and other materials for dissemination through the appropriate channels.
  • Writes original, complex news releases, feature stories, social media content, and other material intended for external audiences.
  • Monitors and responds to employee feedback received via in-person meetings (e.g., roundtables, walkdowns, etc.) and shared email accounts.
  • Supports on- and off-site event planning activities and execution.
  • Provides cost, schedule, and/or budget input as necessary.
  • Peer reviews complex proofs for print pages, web pages, and navigation. Provides input to layout design, materials design, creation, publication and consultation for form/format of media products.
  • Understands and cross-trains on all responsibilities across the Communications Department.
  • Mentors and trains more inexperienced specialists and/or college interns
  • May contribute to multimedia services, such as photography, video production, and graphic design utilizing Adobe products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Public Relations, English, Journalism, Communications, Media or closely related discipline with directly related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRMC is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor. Minimum Pay

USD $76,704.00/Yr.

Maximum Pay

USD $138,048.00/Yr.

Savannah River Mission Completion, LLC (SRMC) has been awarded the Savannah River Site Integrated Mission Completion Contract (SRS IMCC) by U.S Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (DOE EM). SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Critical scope covered under SRS IMCC includes, but is not limited to: Liquid Waste Stabilization/Disposition, and may include Nuclear Materials Management and Stabilization; Project Management and Support Services; Storage of Liquid Radioactive Waste; Remediation, Treatment, and Disposal of Nuclear Materials, Spent Nuclear Fuel; Remediation and Treatment of Contaminated Surface Water, Groundwater and Soils; and, Decontamination of Nuclear Facilities and Equipment. The contract has an estimated ceiling of approximately $21 billion over a 10-year ordering period.
