THE DIFFERENCE YOU MAKE

SCIB Structured Finance Risk - Energy team is looking for an Analyst based out of Madrid.

You will be supporting the Global Head of Structured Finance Risk – Energy, in the management and recommendation/approval of transactions within Banco Santander’s growing Project Finance franchise across the world, more specifically in the key geographies/ regions that SCIB is active in.

You will provide support, guidance, and direction to Front Office teams and other colleagues, ensuring that the standard of credit applications is consistent and of a high quality.

  • Analysing transactions across various geographies acting as either a Local Analyst (for the UK and Continental European jurisdictions) or Global Analyst (for geographies where Local Risk Teams are present).
  • Providing constructive support and feedback to Front Office with the objective of structuring transactions to meet acceptable risk parameters and deliver financial targets.
  • Review Due Diligence documents, Financial models, Legal Documents including Term Sheets and provide feedback to the Front Office teams.
  • Supporting the production of succinct and well-informed presentations of propositions for the relevant credit approval authority.
  • Supporting the Global Head of Structured Finance Risk - Energy with any BAU activities like reviewing and updating Lending Frameworks, agreeing and implementing Internal Audit action items.

Professional Experience

  • Good knowledge of non-recourse lending across the Project Finance space focussing on Energy asset classes like Renewable and Conventional Energy including Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Combined and Open Cycle Gas Turbines, Energy Efficiency, Transmission Lines etc. (required)
  • Experience in the Risk Assessment of a broad range of Project Finance transactions and structures covering various product types. (required)

Education

  • A University degree, preferably in Finance, Management, Engineering or Economics (desirable).
  • Banking, Treasury or Accountancy professional qualifications and/or either an attained or in-progress university degree in a relevant subject (desirable).

Languages

  • English – high level of proficiency in speaking and writing (required)
  • Spanish – high level of proficiency in speaking and writing (required)

Hard Skills

  • Good understanding of credit risk aspects pertaining to Lending, Hedging and Intercreditor documentation (required).
  • Knowledge of the typical suite of products related to Project Finance Lending, including derivatives, Letter of Credit and liquidity lines (required).
  • Knowledge of various Office productivity tools – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint (required).
  • Good understanding of financial forecasting methodology and credit rating interpretation (required).
  • Sound knowledge of relevant industry sectors as well as the wider economic and regulatory environment (desirable).

Soft Skills

  • Team player and highly collaborative with strong stakeholder management skills (required).
  • Well-developed presentational and business writing skills (required).
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a confident, articulate, structured, succinct and coherent manner (desirable).

  • Self-starter with sufficient experience and capability to demonstrate sound commercial judgement; work on own initiative under little supervision (desirable).
