The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The Director of Marketing reports directly to the VP of Marketing and serves as an integral member of the senior leadership team. This person is responsible for building and executing marketing campaigns to drive revenue and engagement, always guided by our mission, securing a future for wildlife. Other areas of responsibility include the development and implementation of marketing, graphics, digital marketing, budgeting, and strategies for all San Antonio Zoo entities.

 

As a Director of Marketing, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Proactively develop and implement strategic traditional & digital marketing plans to advance San Antonio Zoo and related entities through creative content.
  • Monitor costs and budgets. 
  • Manage the execution of all strategic marketing initiatives; communicate internally and externally.
  • Develop and manage, collaborate with the VP of Marketing on annual operating budgets. 
  • Plan, organize, manage, and delegate when necessary all assigned marketing activities for the company.
  • Formulate and implement marketing policies and objectives within the company.
  • Oversee marketing communication, including digital marketing, traditional marketing graphics, and other paid social media campaigns. 
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of the market research function; oversee and evaluate market research.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent brand image throughout all marketing, promotional materials, calendar, and events. 
  • Maintain relationships and collaborate with internal leaders of various departments.
  • Mentor and develop staff consistently using a supportive and collaborative approach.
  • Supervise the marketing team, including hiring, training, delegating workloads, scheduling, assigning deadlines, setting performance and development goals and objectives, establishing priorities, and conducting annual performance appraisals. 
  • Negotiate with media partners to guarantee advantageous controls.
  • Manage consultants, freelancers. 
  • Uphold all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
  • Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and the animals we protect.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required and assigned.

Your Skills and Expertise  

To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Marketing or similar experience is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience overall, with a minimum of 3 years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Marketing and strategic brand experience.
  • Project management experience in leading teams from ideation to implementation.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills that can be effective throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an attention to detail, as well as self-motivated with a willingness to take the initiative.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask to deliver the desired outcomes promptly.
  • Proficiency with research, analysis, and strategy development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Graphics knowledge – Photoshop a plus. 
  • Proven experience with market research.
  • Responsible for the completion of all online Training curricula by the assigned deadline.
  • This position requires a valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License or a valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 45 days of becoming employed.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check. 
  • Must be able to work in varying climate and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
  • We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, who must be available day, night, weekend, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
