Job Description:

We are looking for a part-time intern to support our Salt Lake City Engineering team.

About the Position:

This position will perform community outreach and logging constituent requests. These requests will be catalogued within the City’s asset management database. The intern may also work alongside the Engineering Communication Coordinator providing support as required by the Division.

This job is designed to provide applicants with paid professional experience to further their education and training. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. The position may not require concurrent enrollment if the student is in good standing with the educational institution.

In this role, you may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with city employees and elsewhere when authorized by your supervisor.

This is a non-benefited, part-time, at-will position. The selected candidate may work up to 130 hours per month.

About the Team:

The Community and Neighborhoods Engineering Division administers the design and procurement of construction projects funded by the City’s Capital Improvement Program and the Funding Our Future bond. Applicants for roles within the Engineering Division can expect to support projects that improve streets within the public right-of-way, office buildings, bikeways, and sidewalks – all important areas of the City’s growing infrastructure that everyone uses.

Pay Rate: $21.00/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects data and reviews research materials, determines accuracy and validity of sources, and appropriateness for use.

  • Creates collateral and reviews material for distribution to the public relevant to Engineering Construction mitigation needs.

  • Assists with incoming constituent requests from phone, email and other Customer Resource Management (CRM) applications.

  • Designs, develops, and conducts a variety of research projects; determines appropriate methodologies, information sources, sampling strategies, and data-collection tools, etc.

  • Performs research activities by utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate data.

  • Writes or drafts technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation or analysis.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

  • Complies with city and department policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Must have good organizational and analytical skills.

  • Must have good computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have experience with Esri mapping products and analysis.

  • Conflict resolution skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate physical effort, comfortable working conditions, and handling of light weights.  Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking may be required.  Subject to extended exposure to computer visual display terminals.

  • Potential exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.
