Position Summary
A Dean of Students at Salpointe Catholic High School is a visible leader who mirrors and upholds the Carmelite values of prayer, community, and service. In collaboration with faculty, staff, and administration, the Women’s Dean of Students supports the formation of young women by promoting accountability, dignity, and personal growth within a faith-centered learning environment.
Reporting directly to the Assistant Principal for Student Services, the Women’s Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student conduct, implementing disciplinary policies, and contributing to a school culture rooted in respect, compassion, and high expectations. Discipline at Salpointe is understood as an opportunity for learning and formation; therefore, the Dean approaches student behavior through a balanced lens of accountability, restorative practices, and care for the whole person.
This position is gender-specific and essential to providing appropriate supervision, guidance, and support for female students.
Core Responsibilities
Student Discipline & Conduct
Oversees the daily implementation of the Student Handbook as it pertains to female students.
Processes disciplinary infractions reported by teachers through the student information system in a timely and consistent manner.
Assigns appropriate consequences aligned with school policy and restorative principles.
Meets with students to address behavior concerns and guide corrective action.
Schedules, assigns, and manages detentions and other disciplinary measures.
In consultation with the Assistant Principal for Student Services, assigns and maintains records for students placed on disciplinary probation.
Collaboration & Communication
Works closely with the Assistant Principal for Student Services, School Counselors, and the Student Services team to distinguish between behavioral concerns and mental health needs.
Communicates with parents/guardians in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner regarding disciplinary matters.
Participates in conferences with students, teachers, parents/guardians, and administrators as needed.
Maintains a visible and active presence on campus, including hallways, passing periods, lunches, and school events.
Is present for all lunches and assists in fostering a safe, orderly, and respectful environment.
Monitors attendance records, including absences and tardies, and assigns consequences as appropriate.
Periodically monitors female student restrooms and addresses issues related to dress code, behavior, and student safety with discretion and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
Female – This position is gender-specific and includes responsibilities requiring same-gender supervision.
Master’s degree or substantial graduate coursework in education, social work, psychology, or a related field, with 2+ years of relevant experience working with adolescents.
Demonstrated experience working directly with high school students in an educational or student services setting.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with discretion.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize effectively, and exercise sound professional judgment.
Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills.
Working knowledge of student database and discipline management systems.
Availability to work occasional evenings and special events.
A positive and active faith life, with the ability to apply Gospel values to daily work in a Catholic secondary school environment.
Ability to obtain a DPS IVP fingerprint clearance card
Preferred Qualifications
Practicing Catholic or a strong commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
Experience with restorative justice practices in a school setting.
Teaching or administrative experience at the secondary level.
