About this role

SAIC is seeking an experienced Vehicle Mechanic at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. This role involves maintenance and operations on Medium and Light Tactical Vehicle Platforms in support of Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane tasking portfolio.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Identify and replace components and conduct functional tests to return articles to service; document maintenance and inspection actions.
  • Review technical documentation to identify planned maintenance action requirements.
  • Review and implement service advisory/service bulletins; and provide analysis and recommendations for changes and improvements to equipment installation, operation, modification, and maintenance for equipment.
  • Support all vehicle systems to include communication, engine repair, automatic transmission, manual transmission, suspensions, brakes, electronic systems, heating and air, and ancillary system and subsystems. 

Note: This position requires someone that is able to commit to travel to various locations as needed, up to 50%25 of the time.



REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or a High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in integration, installation, repair, and preventative maintenance efforts for Military wheeled vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance; Interim Secret needed to start. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Available for a flexible work schedule, including extended or weekend hours, sometimes on short notice, to include holidays as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Relevant experience to show the ability to provide classroom and physical practical exercise instruction for Field Level Maintenance New Equipment Training (FLMNET) for LTV platforms.
  • Formally trained mechanic either through Military or formal Postsecondary education.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DD OF346 (U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card).
  • Ability to perform all duties while scrupulously adhering to all prescribed safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, handbooks, sketches, block diagrams, schematics, and blueprint drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to travel to various locations as needed, up to 50%25.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to complete the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing and/or carrying up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a regular basis.
  • Ability to climb into confined spaces within tactical vehicles.
  • Able to manipulate and handle objects needed for installation: reaching, grasping, twisting, turning and manipulating equipment and tools within confined spaces, as well as walking, bending, stooping, sitting, standing or squatting for  extended periods of time.

DESIRED:

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • GM, ASE A1/A8 Certification or Master ASE certification.
  • Medium/Heavy Duty and Light Duty diesel experience.
  • Experience working with Cat-ET, DG Diagnostics, and the DANA testing tool (two or more years).
  • Knowledge of quality systems (e.g., inspection process, company quality procedures).
  • Strong mechanical skills and experience supporting military ground tactical vehicles: troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and checkout procedures.
