POSITION SUMMARY

The Grocery Clerk is responsible for providing consistently phenomenal customer service, efficiently receiving, preparing, and merchandising products, and maintaining attractive displays of products. This position upholds Co-op standards including genuine customer service, department conditions, safety, productivity, and other workplace conditions in a manner that upholds the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and the co-operative identity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Upholds all Co-op policies, procedures and expectations.
  2.  Customer Experience
  3.  Exceed our customers’ expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all people and all diverse backgrounds and in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards.
  4.  Model, provide, and ensure customers receive prompt, friendly and courteous services in a professional manner that markets our cooperative advantage.
  5.   Help customers make product selections by answering questions and providing information about ingredients in all food items.
  6.  Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers and in all situations.
  7.  Ensure that product displays are maintained, full, clean, and attractive at all times.
  8.  Department Operations
  9.  Order, stock and rotate products following Grocery Department procedures.
  10.  Reorder products following the Grocery department procedures.
  11.   Follow department procedures for handling new products and price changes.
  12.  Maintain a working knowledge of stocking supplies and product back stock locations for the Grocery Department.
  13.  Maintain a working knowledge of vendors, products, and delivery schedules for the Grocery Department.
  14.  Clerk Duties
  15.  Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
  16.  Wear proper clothing during shift, including apron and nametag, closed-toe shoes and shirt with sleeves.
  17.   Maintain accurate and attractive signage within the department.
  18.  Keep the department orderly and clean.
  19.  Other Duties
  20.  Assist in inventory counts, storewide cleaning, and other projects as needed.
  21.  Attend meetings and events as requested.
  22.   Ensure equipment repair and maintenance is communicated to appropriate personnel and make adjustments until equipment has been improved.
  23.  Demonstrate support for the cooperative values and principles daily.
  24.  Perform other duties and work in other departments as assigned.
  25.   Know and uphold the Employee Handbook consistently.
  26. Must be available to work hours based on the needs of the business and their department.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  8.  Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s mentally.
  9.  Perform these calculations using units of U.S. currency and weight measurement, volume and distance.

  11.  Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  12.  Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  13.   Prioritize work tasks, multi-task, and maintain focus.
  14.  Computer Skills
  15.  Use Email, website, and time clock software proficiently.
  16.  Education
  17.  High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate.
