We’re looking for a Software Engineer Trainee to join the S‑kaupat team in Helsinki for a fixed-term role from June 1st to September 11th. S-kaupat is part of the SOK Digital Development community, where we develop web services and apps for the whole S Group, digitalizing the S Group services. Your future team includes developers, designers, and business, all working together as a team. This is a great chance to learn from experienced professionals and gain real project experience. In our hybrid working model, the team works at least two days a week at our Ässäkeskus office, but trainees and their mentors typically meet at the office even more. 

About the job 
As a trainee, you’ll spend the summer developing new features and handling maintenance tasks, e.g. fixing issues, updating libraries and writing tests together with your team. You’ll have the chance to work on different parts of the online grocery customer journey, with your responsibilities shaped by your own strengths and interests. Depending on what you enjoy, you can focus on frontend or backend development. On the frontend, you’ll work with TypeScript, React, React Native, Next.js, and Playwright, and you may also contribute to our mobile app. On the backend, you’ll build scalable serverless services on AWS using TypeScript, Node.js, Lambda functions, and various AWS technologies. Throughout the summer, senior colleagues will be there to guide and support you.

What are we looking for? 

You are curious and analytical, and you communicate effectively in English. You love to write code and solve problems. You respect software engineering as a team sport, so working with others is your preferred way to get things done. As our Trainee we expect you to be approaching the end of your engineering studies behind you, and through that a basic understanding of software engineering. While we don’t require prior work experience from the field, all experience in coding counts as your advantage – especially experience in frontend development with React or React Native or experience in backend development in the AWS environment.
