Medical Assistant/LAB (Hawthorne)

POSITION SUMMARY  

This is a full time position. Monday-Thursday 8:00 am-6:30 pm. 

 Must have current valid Current and valid Florida medical assistant’s certification.  

The Medical Assistant/Lab Technician is responsible for assisting nurses or providers with procedures and examinations as needed and for efficient and safe collection of appropriate blood samples from patients for testing.    

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
 Collects patient samples for diagnostic tests, using venipuncture, swabs, finger sticks, and other appropriate methods of collection.
 Logs all lab encounters.
 Performs CLIA waived tests as directed by provider.
 Logs other tests, such as sexually transmitted diseases, as required for government record keeping.
 Pulls lab results charts for provider review.
 Performs diagnostic tests and screens as contracted, including, but not limited to DNA tests, drug screens. 

 Corrects diagnostic codes as needed for insurance billing.
 Maintain lab manifest.
 Collects and stores specimens for outside testing. 

 ▪ Assists nurses or providers with procedures and examination procedures as needed.
▪ Performs CLIA waived laboratory procedures.
▪ Performs specific functions in conjunction with health assessment such as vital signs, weight, height, etc.
▪ Assists in maintaining stock for examining rooms/lab and general maintenance of examining rooms/lab.
▪ Serves as a patient educator by providing information on specific health care issues.
▪ Documents accurately in the medical record.
