Our Air Traffic Solutions - Software Engineering Department (ATS-SED) has early-career opportunities for talented Software Engineers to join a team of 120+ Software Engineers that are developing and supporting several Air Traffic Control Systems.  Our programs are safety-of-life air traffic management systems that we have developed for use by air traffic controllers. The focus of the Software Engineer I position is to be an active team member to support development, integration and testing operational software components during all phases of the software lifecycle.

What You Will Do:

  • Make complex fixes to solve problems or create significant enhancements with guidance from Subject Matter Experts in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Product Line software.

  • Update SW process documentation and work instructions needed to meet ATS SED’s high maturity level software engineering standards and processes.

  • Participate in agile processes and procedures to improve daily standups, sprint planning, sprint feature development, retrospectives, back log grooming and story pointing while using Atlassian tool suite.

  • Work with the software team and leadership in a highly collaborative team environment, requiring frequent multi-level communication with other engineering domain team members, program management and external stakeholders.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to develop, unit test, and deliver your software to the internal integration and test teams for inclusion into the product

  • How to adhere to advanced software development methodologies and processes such as peer reviews, unit test coverage, development processes to add new/fix software into a large software baseline.

  • How to participate in Agile/Scrum processes and use tools that assist the process

  • How to collaborate within a multi-disciplined scrum team working on a common goal to adhere to the sprint schedule and sprint feature content.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Recent Graduates with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the STEM areas of Computer Science, Software Engineering or Math

  • U.S. citizenship is absolutely required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under these programs/contracts.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with software development, test, and/or integration using C, C++, or Java, or similar high-level programming languages

  • Intern experience in Software Engineering which includes exposure to various phases of the software development lifecycle 

  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum principles,continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and automated testing concepts with Test Driven Development (TDD) concepts

  • Experience in a Unix/Linux development environment and command line usage

  • Experience with Scripting languages like Python, bash/ksh

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, including formal presentations

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
