Job Summary:
Provides technological support for the Anesthesiologists in the delivery of patient care for surgical anesthesia and anesthesia care for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. In these areas, the anesthesia technician is responsible for ensuring that the technology of the anesthesia is available and to assist the anesthesiologist in the application of the technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION/Experience:
One of the following must be met:
Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent (GED) and at least 2 years of clinical healthcare experience; or,
Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent (GED) and a current Patient Care Technician with RSFH with at least 6 months experience and in good standing; or,
Graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent (GED) and certified by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists (ASATT) as a certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer.A.T.T.) or certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.).
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card. Certified as an Anesthesia Technician preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to remain calm in a fast-paced or stressful environment. Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. Must possess organizational abilities. Requires the ability to work well with all levels of patients and the public as well as other Health Care Professionals. Must be self directed and able to work independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of variable cultural and educational backgrounds. Basic knowledge and understanding of: General adult/pediatric anesthesia, regional anesthesia, malignant hyperthermia, latex allergy, difficult intubations and all emergent/ non-emergent airway devices, pressure monitoring equipment and all applicable devices, laryngoscope blades, IV fluids, & IV tubing. Basic understanding and knowledge of equipment: Anesthesia Delivery System, H.P. Monitors, respiratory gas monitors, blood/fluid warmers, bair huggers, IV infusion pumps, syringe infusion pumps, peripheral nerve stimulators, stimuplex stimulators, transport monitors, transesophageal echocardiogram probes, fiberoptic laryngoscopes, Doppler, O2 jet ventilators, steris, and autoclaves. Basic knowledge and understanding of all drugs frequently used by the anesthesiologists, and ability to locate any drug rapidly if necessary
OTHER:
Contacts: Constant interaction with anesthesiologists, O.R. Charge Nurse, O.R. Circulating Nurse, and members of the anesthesia care team. Ability to deal with physicians, hospital staff, employees, and visitors in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
