Intern, Product Cost Work

Duration: 6 months (Jan-Jun 2026)
Location: Pune

Position summary:


This internship provides exposure to Product cost work by supporting daily administrative, operational & project-based tasks at Rolls-Royce. You’ll also collaborate with cross-functional teams and develop practical skills in HR operations while working with a high volume fast paced environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Create clean analytical tables from supplier quotations, internal ERP/SAP data, internal excel based database and should-cost benchmarks which will be used to run deterministic and AI cost estimation models
  • Develop machine learning / advanced statistical models to estimate cost of components using techniques like supervised regression, feature engineering, time series concepts during final / course projects
  • In the first step, create bottom-up process / parametric models and as a second layer build an AI model which takes input from base calculations
  • Work with both structured and un-structured data – good knowledge of manufacturing processes to make reliable assumptions in case process steps are missing for a supplier part.
  • Neural networks to explore possibility of cost estimation using CAD geometry or 2D drawing
  • Support to analyze designs, materials, and manufacturing processes to suggest alternatives.

Who we’re looking for: 

  • Pursuing PhD in Data Science engineering (with focus in ML/AI techniques). Graduation or master’s in mechanical / production / industrial engineering.
  • good understanding about SQL, Python and ETL principles
  • Experience with scikit-learn, XGBoost, light GBM and hyperparameter tuning to create reliable estimation model with acceptable error definition (MAPE)
  • Knowledge about Neural networks (benefits and limitations)
  • Knowledge of CAD tools, Manufacturing processes, basics of internal combustion engines
  • Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken
  • Understanding of Internal Combustion Engines.
