We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join our Rolls –Royce Submarines Availability Centre in Derby. We are looking for an Engineer with experience of managing technical projects or teams to take on the role of providing strategic support to our in-service submarine fleet.  Responsibilities include identifying and technically managing projects to deliver solutions to in-service submarines, and managing projects on issues affecting or with the potential to affect submarine availability.  This is an exciting but demanding role. You will be responsible for technically managing high impact workstreams through a wider engineering network of resource, you will be required to interact with the project teams, the customers and other external and internal stakeholders at varying levels of seniority, and will be accountable for the technical and budgetary delivery performance of the projects.

What you will be doing:

  • Identifying, agreeing and coordinating the programs of work to issues affecting in service submarine NSRPs.  
  • You will be responsible for the delivery of work packages using a wide network of internal and external resources to satisfy technical requirements within time and cost constraints.
  • You will provide programme and technical leadership and comply with the Engineering function's policies throughout the lifecycle of your work packages
  • You will communicate the plan and budget for delivering the work.
  • You will ensure programmes of work are managed within the prescribed technical programme management and quality management processes.


Position Qualifications:  
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is/has: 

  • You will have a technical degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, or Submarine NSRP operator experience at cat B or above.
  • You will have Submarine NSRP design or operational knowledge.
  • You will have an understanding of engineering and programme management processes and controls including planning, controlling budgets and risk and driving schedules forward.
  • You will have experience applying systems approach or equivalent and possess engineering and technical competence to ensure effective decision making.
  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written.

For more than 60 years Rolls-Royce Submarines has designed, supplied and supported the nuclear propulsion plant, providing power for all UK Royal Navy nuclear submarines. 

 To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines an individual must hold a Security Check clearance. We will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t already have it. Due to the nature of work we conduct, we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
