Job Description

The AI Center of Excellence (COE) at Rockwell Automation is seeking a self-driven Vision–Language–Action (VLA) Intern to contribute to the development of multimodal AI systems that connect perception, language, and action in real-world industrial environments. You will work closely with AI COE researchers and engineers to translate recent advances in foundation models into deployable, trustworthy industrial solutions.

This internship focuses on bridging state-of-the-art VLA research with the constraints of physical systems, operational workflows, and safety-critical decision-making.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Design and prototype vision–language–action pipelines for industrial use cases

  • Adapt and fine-tune vision-language models and multimodal foundation models for domain-specific industrial data

  • Integrate perception and language models with action representations (e.g., tool invocation, control commands, or workflow steps)

  • Evaluate model performance, robustness, and failure modes in realistic industrial scenarios

  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers on experimentation, deployment concepts, and technical documentation

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • Strong foundation in machine learning and deep learning

  • Experience with computer vision and/or natural language processing

  • Proficiency in Python

  • Hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)

  • Familiarity with transformer-based models (e.g., vision transformers, LLMs, or multimodal models)

  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills

  • Experience with multimodal or VLA models (e.g., vision-language models, embodied AI, robotics, or agent-based systems)

  • Familiarity with LLM tooling (prompting, fine-tuning, adapters, tool use, RAG)

  • Exposure to robotics, control interfaces, or simulation environments

  • Understanding of MLOps practices for training, evaluation, and deployment

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus

What We Offer:

  • Health Insurance including Medical, Dental and Vision

  • 401k

  • Paid Holidays off

  • Parental and Caregiver Leave

  • Flexible Work Schedule where you will work with your manager to enjoy a work schedule that can be flexible with your personal life.
