Overview

Riverside Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and skilled Ambulatory Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in Kankakee, Illinois. The Ambulatory Infusion RN will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals receiving infusion therapy in an outpatient setting. This role involves administering medications, monitoring patient responses, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional care in a supportive environment.

Essential Duties

  • Patient Assessment and Care:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients prior to and during infusion therapy.
    • Administer intravenous (IV) medications, injections, blood products, and fluids as prescribed by physicians.
    • Obtain blood or bodily fluids as ordered by the provider.
    • Monitor patients for adverse reactions or side effects, and respond appropriately to any changes in patient condition.
  • Infusion Therapy Management:
    • Prepare and manage infusion equipment, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of infusion treatments and patient responses.
    • Educate patients and their families about the infusion process, medication regimen, and self-care practices.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to address any concerns or questions regarding treatment.
    • Adhere to AIDET format and standards. Acknowledge and greet all customers timely with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Quality and Safety:
    • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment for infusion therapy.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Document all patient interactions, treatments, and outcomes in electronic health records.
    • Assist with scheduling and coordinating patient appointments for infusion therapy.
  • Infection Control: 
    • Adhere to infection control protocols and standards to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff. Follow proper procedures for sterilization and handling of medical equipment.

Non-essential Duties

  • Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and performing other administrative tasks as needed to support clinic operations.
  • Training and Development: Participate in ongoing professional development and training programs to stay current with best practices and advancements in nursing care.
  • Community Outreach: Engage in community health initiatives and outreach programs as assigned to promote wellness and preventive care.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. 

Responsibilities

Preferred Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with one year of specialty experience in the insertion and maintenance of a variety of VAD, and administration of intravenous infusions preferred. Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is desirable.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a patient-centered approach to care. Proficiency in using medical equipment and EHR software.
  • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of care.

Required Licensure/Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Illinois. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • *New Graduate RNs starting on or after 1/1/25 must earn Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 3 years of start date.

  • Chemicals: Alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Betadine, cleaning products. 
  • Video Display Terminals: Average 
  • Blood and Body Fluids: Performs venipuncture and non-blood specimen collection and performs finger sticks for specimen testing, but the use of universal precautions and protection reduces risk. 
  • TB or Airborne Pathogens: Minimal - if a patient is infected, it is possible that the health care worker would be exposed, but it is greatly diminished by adherence to universal precautions.

  • Speech: Needed for presentations/training, telephone communication, facilitate meetings, patient communication. 
  • Vision: Needed to read memos, literature, draw blood, and perform specimen handling.

  • Hearing: Needed for telephone communications, meetings, and listening to employee and patient concerns. 
  • Touch: Needed to write, do computer entry, filing, draw blood and perform specimen handling.
