Richmond Community Services—a leading nonprofit supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Westchester County—is looking for a Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) to join our collaborative, mission-driven team.

What You’ll Do

As a Behavioral Intervention Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in helping individuals thrive by designing, implementing, and refining behavior support strategies that are practical, person-centered, and grounded in data.

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Support Plans for adults with developmental disabilities in residential settings
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data to guide clinical decision-making and plan revisions
  • Train, coach, and support Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in the effective implementation of behavior interventions
  • Conduct direct observations and collaborate with program leadership to ensure consistent, high-quality support
  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
  • Promote Richmond’s mission, values, and commitment to respectful, person-centered services


What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a thoughtful, confident clinician who balances professionalism with empathy and can translate complex behavioral concepts into clear, usable guidance for staff.

  • Strong ability to analyze and communicate data clearly to both professionals and non-clinical staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain therapeutic, professional relationships
  • Calm, supportive presence during behavioral crises, with appropriate supervision and direction
  • Openness to feedback and a commitment to continuous professional growth
  • Sound judgment when balancing individual needs, staff support, and agency policies
  • Willingness to work some late afternoons, early evenings, and occasional weekends


What You'll Bring

- Bachelor's in a related field like Psychology, Education, or Behavioral Science required. Masters degree highly preferred. 

- At least 2 years of experiences working with people with special needs.
