Overview
The Technical Sales Operations Manager is the commercial-technical bridge for capital equipment sales in the biologics market. This role owns the quote to PO process, drives proposal quality and timeliness, and translates product configurations into accurate sales outputs. Partnering with SMEs (mechanical, process, automation, software), Quality, Product Management, and business leaders, the manager ensures compliance, customer ready proposals and seamless handoff to delivery teams.
Responsibilities
- Sales Process Ownership: Maintain and govern the end-to-end quote → PO workflow, including price lists, quote templates, and configuration rules; train sales teams on changes.
- Proposal & RFP Management: Review URS/RFPs, coordinate exceptions and clarifications with SMEs, and ensure all submission deadlines are met.
- Technical & Quality Support: Provide first line responses to standard URS technical questions; collaborate with Quality on product contact materials and USP/quality claims for consumables; keep technical files current.
- Commercial Governance: Work with business leaders on non-standard approvals and pricing; ensure margin discipline and compliance with approval matrices.
- Product Configuration Translation: Partner with Product Management to convert standard options and configurations into clear, accurate quotes.
- Handoff to Execution: Upon PO, facilitate transition to Customer Service, Manufacturing, and Project Management, ensure scope, options, and deliverables are fully documented.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify process/tooling gaps (CPQ, templates, checklists); drive updates that increase speed, accuracy, and compliance.
- Market & Technical Proficiency: Build working knowledge of downstream equipment (Chromatography, TFF) to self-reliantly address common specification queries and escalate complex items appropriately.
- Maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Quote Accuracy, OnTime Proposal Submission, pipeline Win Rate on Qualified Opportunities
Qualifications
- Technical aptitude (bioprocessing is a plus – Chromatography, TFF)
- Ownership of quote-to-PO process and pricing tools
- RFP and proposal management with deadline adherence
- Cross-functional collaboration with SMEs, Quality, and Product Management
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making under minimal supervision
- Attention to detail and data/document accuracy
- Time management and ability to prioritize multiple projects
