Working at Regis University

As Regis employees, we embrace our Jesuit Catholic values of respect, inclusion and equity, and welcome employees, faculty and students from all faiths and cultures. Together, we perform our duties in alignment with the mission of the University and seek dedicated individuals to contribute to and strengthen that mission and our service to students. Why Work at Regis?

Job Summary:

The Campus Safety Shift Supervisor functions as part of the team supporting a safe and secure learning and working environment for all members of the Regis University community, including guests and visitors. Campus Safety supervisors are responsible for the oversight and supervision of Campus Safety Officers (CSOs), including but not limited to staffing shifts, monitoring officer activity, approving reports, and providing guidance and direction in daily functions. Sergeants also provide command and leadership during critical incidents, conduct performance evaluations, administer disciplinary actions up to and including written reprimands, promote morale and motivation among staff, and oversee the completion of assigned tasks and functions.

This position promotes a respectful and inclusive work environment and develops the skills needed to engage effectively with the diverse communities represented on campus. It requires clear, professional, and collaborative communication across University departments and with external partners such as law enforcement, fire departments, paramedics, and the broader community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with University and Campus Safety Department policies and procedures—in addition to all relevant state and federal regulations—by clearly communicating expectations, operational standards, and legal requirements to staff.

  • Maintain high levels of staff knowledge, skills, and abilities through consistent training, reinforcement of best practices, and ongoing performance oversight.

  • Approve team members’ timecards and leaves of absence. Ensure adequate staffing for each shift and make staffing adjustments as necessary to maintain operational coverage.

  • Ensure incident reports and daily activity logs are completed and submitted.

  • Serve as the Incident Commander during campus emergencies, criminal reports, and significant incidents

  • Offer safety and security information, guidance, and support to the University’s extended campuses as needed.

  • Conduct and Supervise Safety Patrols

  • Secure and unlock campus buildings as required, ensuring appropriate access for scheduled activities and responding to unforeseen access needs.

  • Provide safety escorts for members of the Regis community and respond to all calls for service in a timely, professional manner.

  • Report Maintenance and Technical Issues

Working Conditions:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperature extremes. This involves extensive foot, bicycle, or vehicle patrols. The position involves inherent physical risks associated with safety and security duties and may require long periods of standing, sitting, or walking. As a supervisor, be prepared for unexpected overtime to address investigations, critical incidents, or personnel matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Able to obtain a Denver Security Guard License

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Familiar with the Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act, Title IX, State and Local laws pertaining a university setting

  • Occasionally required to lift or move equipment to support campus activities or respond to emergency situations

  • Ability to use a full range of physical motions and exertion in order to conduct patrols, operate departmental weapons and equipment, and respond effectively to emergency situations.

  • Good hearing and vision are essential for effectively responding to situations and carrying out job responsibilities

  • Possess basic mathematics skills—including counting, addition, subtraction, and related functions— necessary for preparing accurate reports and for monitoring University safety, security, and facility equipment

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently in order to understand Campus Safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws; prepare incident reports and other departmental or University documents; and communicate effectively with the public and with other members of the Department.

Preferred Qualifications (Any of these would be helpful):

  • University or college degree in public safety, or three (3) years of law enforcement, campus safety or security experience

  • AED, CPR, PPCT, First Aid, Clery Act certification

  • Supervisory experience in Higher Education

  • Experience involving practical application of the Clery Act, Violence Against Women Act, Title IX, State and local laws pertaining a university setting
