Job Summary:

The Campus Safety Officer plays a vital role in advancing Regis University’s mission by fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive learning and working environment grounded in care for the whole person (cura personalis). Serving as a visible and approachable presence on campus, the Campus Safety Officer is responsible for routine patrols, safety escorts, access control, incident response, and providing guidance and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

In emergency and critical incident situations, the Campus Safety Officer exercises sound judgment and leadership, serving as Incident Commander when higher authority is not immediately available. The position responds to a wide range of incidents—including medical and mental health emergencies, fire alarms, criminal activity, policy violations, and natural disasters—while coordinating effectively with internal University partners and external emergency responders to protect life, property, and institutional operations.

The Campus Safety Officer enforces University policies and applicable laws, conducts thorough investigations, and prepares accurate and timely reports to support institutional accountability, Clery Act compliance, and potential legal proceedings. Through safety education, outreach, and daily interactions, the role emphasizes prevention, community engagement, and mutual respect, reinforcing Regis University’s commitment to human dignity, shared responsibility, and the well-being of the entire campus community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine and directed patrols of campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas to deter crime and identify safety hazards.

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents, including medical and mental health emergencies, fire alarms, criminal activity, disturbances, and threats to safety.

  • Assess incidents and take appropriate action to resolve or mitigate situations, serving as Incident Commander when higher authority is not immediately available.

  • Coordinate effectively with external emergency responders and internal University partners to support timely incident resolution.

  • Enforce University policies, student conduct regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws in a fair and professional manner.

  • Conduct preliminary investigations and gather information to support safety, compliance, and follow-up actions.

  • Prepare clear, accurate, and timely incident reports to support administrative review and Clery Act compliance.

  • Provide safety escorts, secure and unlock facilities, and serve as a visible, approachable safety resource for the campus community.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed both in and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperature extremes and includes extensive foot, bicycle, or vehicle patrols. The position involves inherent physical risks associated with safety and security duties and may require long periods of standing, sitting, or walking. As a supervisor, be prepared for unexpected overtime to address investigations, critical incidents, or personnel matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 21 years old at the time of hiring

  • Able to obtain a Security Guard License through the City and County of Denver.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, whether security-related or not, as determined by the Director.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College courses relating to public safety.

  • One (1) year of law enforcement, campus safety or security experience.

Required Abilities:

  • Ability to perform physical patrol duties, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and responding to emergencies.

  • Ability to use hands, vision, and hearing to operate safety equipment, radios, and patrol vehicles.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely decisions in emergency and non-emergency situations.

  • Ability to accurately document incidents and recall relevant details.

  • Ability to safely and effectively use department-issued equipment and tools.

This position will remain open until filled, with a priority application deadline of February 10th, 2026.
