Status: Regular Full-time Positions

Salary Range: $92,151 - $115,189 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Hiring Range: $92,151 - $103,670 per annum plus comprehensive benefits

Who we are:  The Infrastructure Planning, Partnerships & Compliance team at the Region of Peel focuses on strategically planning and managing the Region's infrastructure to support sustainable growth and development. We collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure projects are delivered efficiently and in compliance with regulations and standards. Our team plays a vital role in shaping the Region's infrastructure landscape to meet the needs of its residents and businesses while promoting environmental sustainability and resilience.

 

The Role: 

Reporting into the Program Manager you will provide technical support to the wellhead protection program including schedules for field sampling and testing, data collection and data compilation/analysis including preparation of mandated monitoring reports, Assist Project Managers on the management and maintenance of the Service Ontario account for PTTW, EASR and ECAs. You will also maintain and manage water data and information, evaluate groundwater program initiatives and participate in implementation of improved business processes.

 

 What you will do in this Role:

  • Assist Project Managers as a contact person for the Service Ontario account one window approach.
  • Maintain the wellhead protection program serving as a point of contact for related field work and assist in the preparation of monitoring reports.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and update of the Oak Ridges Moraine Portal.
  • Convert field survey data to computer map form using computer-aided mapping; assist in the interpretation of findings and program result presentations and research information. Prepares geological maps, tabulated data, graphs, drawings and figures.
  • Coordinate the sampling of groundwater monitoring wells according to existing standard protocols and install/replace field instruments according to the monitoring program requirements.
  • Coordinate the water level testing and surveying.
  • Inspect new/existing monitoring well network during field visits.
  • Assist with the development of monitoring plans, including sampling schedules, water level testing and data downloads.
  • Obtain product information, identify vendors or suppliers; and orders materials/ equipment to maintain inventory.
  • Coordinate and work with consultants to conduct subsurface investigations and related sampling.
  • Identify data gaps and needs.
  • Research and compile information for special assignments/projects related to water studies, and related pending legislation.
  • Prepare memorandums, technical summaries, reports and process event reports as needed.
  • Reviews hydro-geological studies as they pertain to new development and ensures requirements are met
  • Support Source Water Protection Officer when required.

What the Role Requires:

  • Degree in Geology, Environmental Science or related science discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience in the environmental fields.
  • In depth knowledge of Ontario Regulation 903, test holes and dewatering wells requirements and best management practices.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Excel and working with large databases.
  • Working knowledge of Clean Water Act, SDWA, OWRA, environmental regulations and industry standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GIS and CAD software.
  • Knowledge of groundwater chemistry and experience using and troubleshooting electronic field instruments.
  • Valid G Driver’s Licence with daily access to a vehicle.

Skills/Abilities: 

  • Detail oriented with the ability to balance project priorities.
  • Ability to read legal description maps and locate specific legal descriptions on the map and in the field.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to organize a mass of data and draw proper correlations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with geological logs and cross section mapping.

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role, you'll enjoy the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement. This means you'll have the ability to work off-site and on-site as needed, depending on operational needs at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site work may vary from week to week, depending on operational demands, which can evolve over time.

 

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
