JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a passionate and experienced qualitative UX Researcher to join our growing UX team. You will be responsible for helping define and drive the future of our products and refine some existing ones to provide better experiences to our customers in the real estate and rental industries. You will reveal what our users need from our products by conducting qualitative research, working with cross-functional teams, and performing discovery, usability studies and post-launch studies. These responsibilities also include inspiring user-focused explorations, documenting the learnings, proposing product change or design directions, delivering oral and written presentations, evaluating qualitative data from primary and secondary sources, and helping the UX team better understand what would make RealPage products more intuitive, accessible, and easy to use.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
A successful qualitative UX Researcher at RealPage must have the ability to find out what users in the real estate and rental industries need from a software product. The ideal candidate must be able to conduct research in the following areas: primary, secondary, qualitative, market, and ethnographic. The researcher will help product, development and design teams to better understand user motivations and behaviors while working with cross-functional teams. The UX researcher will play a critical role in the early design and strategic product exploration processes. They will be responsible for providing answers to challenging and often unexplored questions about rental experiences and inform stages of product’s design. To do this, the qualitative UX researcher will conduct series of research engagements from discovery, strategy, design, testing and post-launch user feedback.
The best candidate will have a deep understanding of qualitative user research methods and best practices, experience with and passion for proptechnology and digital B2B & B2C product development. This role will work in close day-to-day partnership with the Design, Product, and Technology teams to improve existing user experiences and identify new opportunities for future product enhancements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with cross-functional teams to identify and evaluate discover, strategic, iterative and post-launch research topics to capture business values and metrics delivered by UX.
Collaborating with senior members of the team to help create an overall discovery and research plans that effectively fits user feedback into the product development processes across various phases.
Conducting primary and secondary qualitative user research, including methods such as user interviews, ethnography, potentially onsite user intercepts, usability testing, and questionaries to truly understand and empathize with renters and professionals in the real estate industry while answering specific research questions to drive impactful business outcomes.
Presenting qualitative findings in clear and compelling formats that are effective at bringing teams together and sparking meaningful conversations.
Synthesizing the qualitative and iterative research into actionable and interesting insights by uncovering patterns and themes that can effectively improve and enhance the suite of software products across user personas.
Communicating findings with technical and non-technical members of the teams to foster a deep understanding of user behavior and needs.
Advocating the value of the research findings to diverse audiences through written and oral presentations.
Assisting the research team in improving qualitative processes and data collection methods.
Mentoring and coaching junior UX and colleagues across functional team about diverse qualitative methodologies and impactful insights.
Acting as an ambassador, evangelizing qualitative user research internally and externally.
Leading workshops and stakeholder meetings – ability to listen and incorporate feedback from colleagues in a workshop environment.
Negotiating and influencing skills and being able to work well with cross-functional teams – e.g. product and standards designers, product managers, business analysts, engineers and business unit leaders.
Prioritizing tasks effectively in a fast-paced and global remote environment while maintaining thorough documentation with clear and insightful presentations of qualitative research findings.
Paying an excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality, both in terms of your own work and in improving product quality through discovery research and usability testing.
Managing own time effectively while working across various time zones.
Being open-minded and forward thinking and actively maintaining an interest in the field while keeping up-to-date with qualitative research and analysis tools, techniques and testing methodologies.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
5+years of experience in product and/or qualitative UX research
BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience end-to-end experience with all aspects of qualitative research (study design, recruiting, moderation, analysis, reporting).
Experience with usability testing and evaluative research as well as generative research methodologies, including expertise in digital product development (B2B and B2C)
Experience with various remote testing tools, methodologies and techniques.
Mastery of qualitative research methods with excellent planning skills and ability to distill project goals and research questions into well thought-out research plans.
Method determination skills – ability to identify the best method or mix of qualitative methods based on research questions, timeline and resources.
Usability or UX testing skills – creating study designs, moderating sessions, writing reports, and presenting findings that drive the improvement of product features.
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
A portfolio that exhibits how past research experiences contributed to successful feature/product development.
Understanding of agile design and development practices and UX-centered systems thinking for complex global organizations
Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment.
Growth mindset and sense of humor are a must.
