What is the opportunity?

This position offers an exciting opportunity with the QTS Data and Architecture Strategy team, to drive strategic objectives for RBC Capital Markets by shaping and strengthening IT data controls and registration.

The Associate Director, Data Governance and Automation will lead the automation within the data cataloging and controls space This role will identify opportunities, plan the roadmap and drive the automation along with the shift towards AI driven use cases. The role involves working with senior leaders across Capital Markets.

What will you do?

  • Lead the automation of data cataloging and controls documentation using industry-standard tools and frameworks, ensuring alignment with best practices

  • Demonstrate deep expertise in capital markets datasets, trade lifecycle flows, and associated metadata structures

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to design target operating models and implement change management strategies

  • Partner with stakeholders across business and technology functions to advance data governance policies, identify automation opportunities, and optimize processes in support of IT control objectives

  • Work closely with Business/Technology Owners and Data Stewards to translate initiatives into measurable business value and outcomes

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with senior business and technology leaders across CM and Enterprise to ensure alignment and success of our initiatives

  • Fast-paced work environment resulting from stringent deadlines during peak periods

  • Collaboration with global teams in North America, EMEA and APAC.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • 8+ years of related experience leading in execution, delivery

  • 3+ years with leading banks and organizations on data governance, controls framework and strong awareness of tech architecture

  • Knowledge of Capital Markets end to end trade flow process, Operations, Finance & Risk

  • Demonstrated ability to face off to Director and Managing Director level senior management across IT and business

  • Ability to learn & adapt in a dynamic environment

  • Tech Skills: Python, SQL, Knowledge of AI agents

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline

Nice To Have:

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities; Strong structured, analytical, and methodological thinking

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

  • Automation expertise for cataloging; Gen AI usage

  • Collaborative and organized; demonstrated ability to multi-task across competing priorities

  • Proficiency with Tableau, MS Office (MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) & Visio
