This job posting is targeted at individuals with senior-level front-end engineering experience, for a position in the Platform Strategy Department, which is part of a corporate organization directly under the COO and Vice President.
The Platform Strategy Department is not involved in the operation of specific services but focuses on growth strategies and initiatives for the ecosystem, primarily through cross-functional marketing efforts across the Rakuten Group.
Corporate organization: A group of cross-functional departments such as Corporate Planning, President’s Office, Human Resources, General Affairs, Accounting, and Legal Affairs.
As such, this department plans and executes initiatives based on the company-wide strategy, allowing individuals to develop a broad perspective and build their careers. Furthermore, the Platform Strategy Department is the only department within Rakuten Group, Inc. that is involved in such company-wide initiatives.

Why We Hire
To further establish a stronger "Rakuten Ecosystem," we are seeking individuals who can lead the front-end development of services and products related to the Rakuten Ecosystem (membership).
Additionally, we are currently planning a project to revamp the architecture, including the backend of our core products, and are looking for candidates who can take charge of designing the front-end architecture for this initiative.
Position Details
Design of front-end architecture Design and development of reusable components Collaboration with backend engineers to design API specifications Construction of front-end development environments Implementation of new services/products Improvement and refactoring of existing services/products Proposals and implementation incorporating new front-end technologies Establishment of quality assurance mechanisms, such as code reviews, coding standards, and documentation maintenance
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Over 5 years of hands-on experience in front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Experience implementing with libraries/frameworks such as React, Vue.js, TypeScript, Next.js
- Development using meta-languages like Sass
- Development using various build tools (Vite, webpack, gulp, etc.)
- Version control of code using Git
- Implementation of dynamic processing using APIs
- Team development experience with product managers/directors and designers
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience as a technical director
- Deep understanding of front-end technical specifications
- Back-end development (PHP, Java, etc.)
- Know-how on performance improvement
- Experience participating in projects from the requirements definition phase
- Experience in managing a front-end development team
