As a communications manager and member of Rakuten’s Corporate Communications Department, you will join a growing global team in supporting PR activities for the entire Rakuten Group, in collaboration with a wide range of partners and stakeholders all over the world.

Position Details

In this role, you will support Rakuten Group’s global corporate communications efforts, contributing to the planning and execution of public relations strategies for major corporate announcements and initiatives aimed at our global audience. Working closely with global media, you will help strengthen Rakuten’s reputation as a technology-driven company and foster constructive, long-term media relationships.

The role calls for a solid understanding of the global media environment and a proven ability to translate complex technologies, such as AI, into compelling narratives for a global audience. You will work with teams across the organization to understand new businesses and technologies and help communicate their impact on the industry and other stakeholders. An existing international media network is welcome but not essential.

You will also collaborate with team members to support the global visibility of Rakuten’s senior executives by identifying speaking opportunities and contributing to the development of clear, engaging messaging materials. In addition, the role involves close coordination with global Rakuten Group companies to develop consistent content across owned and social media channels.

Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing PR strategies for major Rakuten Group announcements and initiatives
- Managing global media relations, including interviews, press conferences, and media events involving senior executives
- Drafting, coordinating, and distributing press releases and media materials
- Monitoring global media coverage and handling inbound media inquiries
- Building and maintaining relationships with top-tier international media outlets
- Supporting global executive visibility through speaking opportunities, events, and presentation development
- Planning and producing content for Rakuten’s owned and social media channels (e.g., Rakuten Today, LinkedIn, Instagram)
- Providing strategic communications counsel to business units and subsidiaries worldwide
- Coordinating with internal teams, global subsidiaries, and external partners such as agencies and vendors
- Contributing to the development of the corporate communications team across English and Japanese channels

Mandatory Qualifications:

- Minimum 5 years of experience in media, corporate communications, or public relations, gained in a media organization, PR agency, or in-house corporate role
- Experience planning and executing PR strategies
- Experience writing, editing, and distributing press releases and other corporate communications materials
- Strong editorial judgment and writing skills, with an understanding of journalistic standards
- Solid project and budget management skills
- Experience managing production resources and working with external partners, including agencies and vendors
- Experience planning and managing press conferences, media events, and media relations
- Ability to work effectively in a complex, global business environment and engage with senior executives
- Business-level Japanese proficiency required (native-level proficiency not required)
