Department Overview

CEO Strategy Office (CEOSO) is a small, elite department of about 20 people in an organization directly under the President that is involved in all business development projects within the Rakuten Group.

CEOSO is an independent organization that does not belong to any specific company, and is engaged in various projects on a wide range of themes depending on the business situation. This is a department where you can be involved in solving business and management issues in close proximity to the management team and feel the dynamism of management more directly.

The target fields of the new business are the provision of solutions for government and other public authorities ( such as Aerospace/ Maritime/ Security areas).

As a core member in the launch of a new business, the main tasks include.

- Negotiations with customers and partners, business development and sales activities
- Creation/management of business strategy and plans
- Developing and managing internal business operations and management systems
- Manage the progress, quality and cost of individual projects and resolve issues
- Recruiting and training team members

Work Environment

Organization Structure
- Team size: Around 20 people in the CEO's Strategy Office (New Business Launch Team: Around 10 people)
- Age range: Primarily 20s to 30s
- Ratio of new graduates to mid-career hires: 4:6

Work Style 
Flexible work arrangements are possible as a flextime system with core hours is adopted.

- Experience in government sectors, Self-Defense Force, consulting, SIers, startups

Career path examples
- Joined Rakuten after working in the air and space branch of a government agency. After being involved in the launch of the drone business and other initiatives, subsequently solved various business and management cases in the CEOSO. Currently active as a team leader in a new business launch project, and also responsible for member management

- After gaining experience as a member, career advancement to the  management level is also possible
- There are also cases where individuals moved to related businesses of interest after experience within CEOSO

Mandatory Qualifications:

'- Experience in business for government

Desired Qualifications:

- Experience working on government-related projects (Aerospace/ Maritime/ Security areas)
- Experience in sales, corporate planning, project management and consulting for government
- Knowledge and work experience in the technology sector (advanced technologies such as AI, telecommunications, drones, etc.)
- Experience of working with overseas business partners or contributing to project progression
- Experience in new business creation

'Ideal candidate profile
- Able to take on the challenge of building a business from the ground up, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of ownership
- A self-starter with an Agile approach and a sense of speed
