The opportunity

This role is suited to an experienced Lead Solution Architect who will shape the technical direction of the Consumer Value Stream by guiding how solutions come together across teams and ensuring they are cohesive, scalable and aligned to QBE’s evolving technology landscape.

Your new role

At QBE, we are modernising our technology platforms and ways of working to be Australia’s leading Insurer. The Consumer Value Stream (CVS), which this role supports, is focused on uplifting our personal lines of business in conjunction with this Technology Modernisation. As an integral member of the Architecture Team within the Consumer Value Stream you will produce solution designs and provide design leadership to guide, challenge, recommend and monitor IT solutions developed in-house or by external providers that meet the needs of Consumer Value Stream as well as wider QBE business

Responsibilities include:

• Partner with the CVS Principal Enterprise Architect to design solutions for the Consumer Value Stream and other value streams as required.
• Align all solution designs to Enterprise Architecture principles, technology roadmaps and QBE’s strategic direction.
• Collaborate with internal teams, IT Platforms and third‑party service providers to ensure designs deliver the required business outcomes.
• Ensure technical solutions are delivered efficiently, following QBE processes and meeting business, cost and time constraints.
• Provide design leadership throughout the end‑to‑end initiative lifecycle, ensuring solutions meet expectations and adhere to due governance.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by refining processes, ways of working and architectural practices across CVS.

About you

You’re a seasoned architect with depth across modern and legacy environments and a strong tilt toward infrastructure and security. You bring:

• Deep experience designing both modern (microservices, containers, SPAs, REST APIs) and legacy solutions across application, integration and data domains, with strong infrastructure and security awareness.
• Proven ability to ensure technology solutions align with architectural principles, governance, standards and long‑term strategy.
• Strong stakeholder influence and negotiation skills, including experience working with third‑party service providers.
• Demonstrated success delivering solutions within large‑scale change environments, ideally in Scaled Agile settings.
• Skilled at identifying and assessing risks and complexity using structured risk management frameworks, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Experienced in cloud‑based architectures (Azure, AWS and/or Oracle), with excellent documentation, communication and rapid learning capability.
