Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):
- Supervise and mentor junior surgical technologists and assist with their training and development, demonstrate proper techniques, reinforce sterile procedures and share best practices
- Count and track sponges, needles, and tools to prevent retained items, accurate counts of all items used in the surgical procedure
- Set up the operating room by sterilizing and arranging instruments supplies and equipment while preparing patients for surgery through proper positioning and sterile draping
- Assist during surgery by passing instruments maintaining a sterile field and anticipating the surgical team’s needs while tracking instruments and sponges
- Support postoperative care by applying dressings transporting patients to recovery and cleaning and restocking the operating room
- Follow strict infection control protocols ensure safe handling of specimens and maintain compliance with hospital and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and sterile processing staff while communicating effectively in high-pressure situations
Qualifications
Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:
- Current CST certification upon hire and maintain current
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted) upon hire and maintain current
Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus:
- Graduate from a surgical technology program accredited through ARC/STSA
