Job Summary:

A Patient Care Tech (PCT) at ProMedica plays a vital role in the health and safety of our patients every day. From caring for patients to performing clerical services, a PCT helps all members of the ProMedica health care team while complying with standards, procedures, and policies. A PCT is a genuine ambassador for ProMedica as they interact with patients, visitors, and co-workers.  

The PCT assists the patient care team with exams, procedures, obtaining patient data and other processes related to direct patient care. The PCT also ensures an appropriate stock of supplies and equipment is available and functioning properly.    

In this role, you will perform tasks related to scheduling procedures, coordinating admission as well as discharge and transfer processes. PCTs answer phones, take messages, and direct calls. You will also pick up and deliver specimens, documents, and other items to contribute to operational efficiency.

ACCOUNTABILITIES 

All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise 

  • Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e.: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric), coordinated and delegated by licensed nursing personnel. 
  • Collects patient data as directed. Recognizes and reports any changes or deviations from routine to licensed nursing personnel, including abnormal vital signs, symptoms, condition changes, patient events, and patient responses to treatment. 
  • Provides guest relations, fields phone inquiries appropriately. Provides support to families and significant others, assisting the nursing staff to meet these needs. Perceived as helpful and friendly to all customers. 
  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team and physician offices to promote a seamless patient care continuum. Facilitates prompt, efficient patient services through organizing, prioritizing, and performing clerical activities. 
  • Assists in preparing patients, physically and psychologically, for treatments, procedures, and studies. 
  • Maintains inventory and par levels for special equipment and supplies. 
  • Performs any other job related to duties as indicated. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent. 
  • Skills: BLS within 6 months of hire. Able to read, write, and speak the English language. Must have excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette. Ability to perform basic math and must have basic computer skills. Ability to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas. Ability to function quickly in stressful situations. 
  • Years of Experience: Previous experience as a nursing assistant or proof of satisfactory completion of a nursing assistant program in the last two years. 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

  • Years of Experience: Experience as a unit clerk in an acute care environment.
