We are looking for Housekeeping & Laundry Team Members who can work PRN (As Needed) who are professional, have an optimistic demeanor, communicates well and work in a friendly and energetic manner. Achieves day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping & Laundry department in accordance with current Federal, State, and Local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and/or Supervisor. Responsible for facility maintenance to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
Housekeeping Services
Conducts a variety of general housekeeping/cleaning duties in various areas to maintain the center in a sanitary, safe, attractive, and orderly condition
Receives assignments from Supervisor and follows cleaning schedule as outlined for housekeeping department to clean offices, handicap and visitor’s restrooms, activity room, kitchen restroom, service entrance and therapy room, entrances and exits, utility areas, closets, lounges, lobbies, halls, etc. | Conducts emergency housekeeping
Follows work assignments from Supervisor and competes assignments, not limited to, contacting maintenance if light bulbs are out, cleaning lint from registers in resident rooms and other areas | Keeps grounds cleared of debris | Sweeps front entrance and patio areas, cleans ash trays, and ensure outside furniture is clean and usable | Clean garbage cans | Washes windows and screens outside the building
Cleans, dusts, washes, and disinfects all fixtures, floors, walls, doors, and ceilings | Scours and polishes water fountains, sinks, mirrors, glass panels in doors and partitions, brass and movable and stationary furnishings and fixtures | Changes slip covers, scarves, doilies, etc. when soiled and arranges furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion | Cleans ledges, shelves, vents, windows, window sills, etc. | Removes and re- hangs curtains, drapes, and dividers for cleaning | Replenishes soap and towels in appropriate receptacles
Works jointly with maintenance department personnel to service floors, all resident rooms, baths, lounges, nurse’s stations, and offices
Clean furnishings and horizontal surfaces to remove dust and dirt
Works with residents, nurses, physicians, department leaders and other staff members regarding environmental services requests, infection prevention, service resolution opportunities, and other interdepartmental matters | Provides timely follow-up for information to requesting departments | Communicates and consults with management on best practices
Completes housekeeping/cleaning duties and maintenance tasks as defined in the environmental program
Obtains list of rooms and areas to be cleaned immediately and list of prospective admissions and/or discharges to maintain room readiness
Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, disinfecting, etc. | Ensures that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to completing such duties
Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end of the workday
Clean carpets with appropriate machine and chemicals | Complete floor care on tile floor using appropriate machine and chemicals | Follows procedures for stripping and waxing floors
Monitors and replenishes cleaning products as required; Inventories stock to ensure adequate supplies | Uses industrial cleaning equipment and products | Utilizes supplies and equipment properly and without waste | Returns any unused supplies to proper area | Leaves soiled materials and trash in designated areas, and cleans carts and equipment
Completes terminal cleaning duties according to established procedure in resident rooms when resident has been discharged or transferred and prepare rooms for new occupants
Complete cleaning duties in isolation units when resident is transferred according to established procedures (see Nursing Procedure Manual)
Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or assigned at any time with or without notice
Laundry Services
Complete day-to-day laundry functions with state required laundry procedures
Collect, sort and weight soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc. and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas
Sort soiled laundry and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment
Sort, Count and wash soiled laundry in accordance with state required procedures
Press/iron garments as instructed
Fold, count, stack, hang and distribute clean laundry to residents, linen closets/carts daily
During emergency conditions, assure clean laundry is distributed to designated areas as instructed
Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc. from equipment or floor surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions
Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner
Resident Rights
Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information
Knock before entering a resident’s room
Honor the residents’ personal and property rights
Report complaints of missing property to your supervisor
Turn in all found articles to your Supervisor
Administrative
Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are closely followed
Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be. (Note: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur)
Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when completing routine assignments in resident living areas
Agree not to disclose assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator
Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator
Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s information system
Personnel Functions
Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called
Complete specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
File complaints/grievances with your Supervisor
Report known or suspected incidents of fraud to the Administrator
Ensure that departmental computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automatic screen-saver activates within established facility policy guidelines
Staff Development
Participate and assist in department studies and projects
Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or as directed
Attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs as scheduled (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, etc.)
Safety | Sanitation
Follow established fire safety policies and procedures
Follow established safety precautions when completing tasks and when using equipment and supplies
Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner
Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.
Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used in the work area | Refer to material safety data sheets (MSDSs) when necessary
Follow established policies governing the use of labels and MSDSs
Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to your Supervisor
Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when completing laundry procedures
Participate in an in-service training program prior to completing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals
Use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling infectious materials
Discard sharps into designated containers
Follow established handwashing procedures
Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures
Follow established policies governing the use/disposal of personal protective equipment and disposal of infectious wastes
Coordinate isolation procedures with nursing service
Other(s) that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that our laundry department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner
Equipment | Supplies
Ensure that an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies is maintained in laundry/linen closets to meet the daily needs of the residents
Keep Supervisor informed of supply needs
Keep work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, excess carts, baskets, supplies, equipment, etc.
Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor
Report all equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your Supervisor
Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as directed or requested
Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary/directed
Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift

Specific Requirements
Ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism

Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of laundry areas, for sanitation, order, and safety
Work harmoniously with other personnel as well as being able to handle residents based on the maturity level which they are currently functioning
Seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing laundry practices
Follow written and verbal instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, etc.
Not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace
Physical | Sensory Requirements
Able to move intermittently throughout the workday
Be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
Utilize sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
Function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel
Able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility
Able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
