About this role

What You'll Do



We’re looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our Stable Value Team at Principal Morley. In this role, you’ll actively participate in the management of the investment strategy, and portfolio construction of our stable value portfolios. 

  • Manage stable value portfolios, including asset allocation, cash flow analysis, and liquidity planning. Partner with the team to implement the optimal mix of wrap providers and subadvisors 
  • Support Sales and Service teams through client presentations, RFP/RFI responses, and thought leadership that leverages stable value and fixed income expertise 
  • Stay current on the stable value industry, fixed income markets, and broader economic trends—and provide insights that inform portfolio strategy 
  • Assist in managing wrap issuer relationships, including contract reviews and guideline negotiations 
  • Co-manage daily investment activities for medium-sized or complex stable value accounts, ensuring performance, risk, diversification, and liquidity align with client objectives and policy guidelines 
  • Represent Principal Morley in client meetings, due diligence sessions, and finals presentations; articulate investment capabilities and contribute to product development and competitive positioning 
  • Monitor market and industry developments to identify opportunities, risks, and emerging themes; cultivate external relationships to enhance market intelligence 
  • Contribute to team development by coaching, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment

Who You Are



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in business, finance, economics or another technical field 
  • 5+ experience with stable value strategies and/or experience in trading, research, portfolio specialist or portfolio management capacity
  • Strong knowledge of global economies and investment theories, fixed income investments, and related regulatory requirements  

 

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out  

  • Stable Value portfolio management and structuring experience  
  • Book Value contract analysis and negotiation experience 
  • MBA and/or CFA designation 
  • Must be able to build and maintain strong relationships and negotiate 
  • Strong decision making, and communication (verbal and written) skills 
  • Must be self-motivated, client-driven, competitive, results oriented and have excellent planning, delegation, and time management skills 
  • Must have a keen sense of curiosity and open-minded thought process 

Salary Range Information



Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)



$157000 - $285000 / year

Time Off Program



Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

The preferred location is Portland, OR where the Morley team sits. We are also open to the other Principal Asset Management locations which include Des Moines, Denver, Chicago, or New York City.

Job Level 

We’ll consider talent at the next level with the right experiences and skills. The next level up would require at least seven years of experience. The base pay range shown includes both levels. The hiring team will decide the level, based on prior experience.
