About the Role:

The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting scientific and medical research by preparing and processing specimens, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. This position involves working closely with laboratory technologists and scientists to facilitate various analyses in histology, cytology, microbiology, and biochemistry. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for adhering to strict safety and quality control protocols to maintain a sterile and efficient laboratory environment. Through meticulous specimen processing and data recording, the assistant contributes to the timely diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. Ultimately, this role ensures that laboratory operations run smoothly, supporting the broader goals of healthcare and scientific discovery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with coursework in biology, chemistry, or related sciences.
  • Experience and/or certificate in phlebotomy (we are also willing to train)
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and specimen processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and proper handling of biological specimens.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or certification in medical laboratory technology or a related field.
  • Experience with histology, cytology, microbiology, or biochemistry laboratory procedures.
  • Proficiency in specimen processing.
  • Previous work experience in a medical or research laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory information systems (LIS) and data entry.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process biological specimens for analysis. 
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including analyzers and other specialized instruments.
  • Perform routine chemical and biochemical tests under supervision, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of specimen processing, test results, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and proper handling of hazardous materials.

The required skills such as laboratory equipment operation, histology, cytology, microbiology, and biochemistry are essential for daily specimen preparation and analysis, ensuring accurate and reliable test outcomes. Proficiency in specimen processing techniques enables the assistant to support complex diagnostic procedures effectively.
