About this role

Senior Mechanical Engineer (Implant Hardware)

Department: Precision

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Manhattan, New York

Compensation: $140,000 - $160,000 / year

Description

Precision Neuroscience is building a next-generation brain–computer interface (BCI) to heal and empower millions of people living with neurological conditions.

Our first product, Layer 7, is designed to help people with severe paralysis operate digital devices using only their thoughts—opening up new possibilities for daily life.

Our team brings together experts in neurosurgery, AI and machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, clinical science, and more. We combine deep technical rigor with a people-first mindset to turn breakthrough research into real-world medical solutions.

As a Precision employee, you’ll join one of the fastest-moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of brain–computer interfaces. Since our founding in 2021, we have raised more than $180 million, advanced our technology through validation, and initiated human trials with leading hospitals across the country.

Our Values:
We build for human impact, measuring progress by the lives our work can change.
We do no harm, holding ourselves to the highest standards of safety, integrity, and responsibility.
We innovate with urgency, because the stakes are high and our users can’t wait.
We bring sharp minds, open ears, pairing expertise with curiosity, humility, and respect.
And we lead the way, taking ownership of our work and helping to shape the future of our field.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Implant Hardware team to design scalable solutions to chronically implanted electronics.

This position will best suit someone who is experienced with mechanical design of surgical tools and Class III medical devices with implantable electronics such as IPG, DBS, spinal cord stimulator, cochlear implants, etc.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to join our core team to help shape the future of our company. Your work will see commercialization quickly so that we improve the lives of patients who live with neurological disorders in a matter of months and years, not decades.

This position will be based in our Manhattan office. We are unable to consider remote workers or individuals who are not currently based in the US and legally authorized to work in the US.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute hands-on design, testing, and process development tasks for mechanical packaging of MEMS and implantable electronic components.
  • Complete hands-on assembly, integration and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to publish and present our work.
  • Create and update end-user technical documentation, product specifications and vendor procedures to ensure we are compliant with relevant regulations.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Biomedical Engineering (BME) or similar.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering roles, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Experience designing parts for CNC, injection molding, 3D printing, and die stamping manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience designing chronically implantable class III medical devices.
  • Some experience with MEMS is preferred.
  • Experience designing, evaluating, and debugging hermetic seals, laser and resistance welds, brazed joints, and thick film metalization.
  • Experience with silicone compression molding, liquid silicone injection molding, or overmolding
  • Demonstrated proficiency in designing, executing, and analyzing Design of Experiments (DOE), applying statistical methods to interpret results, quantifying variability, and driving data-informed engineering decisions.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to collaborate with neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, and electrical, software, materials, and bio engineers.
  • Expert in CAD (we use SolidWorks) and finite element analysis FEA
  • Track record of working towards accelerated timelines.
  • You should be comfortable with creative problem solving, collaborating, and taking charge of projects from concept to production
