The Plant Manager oversees the daily operations of the plant, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing and distribution of products. This leadership role involves coordinating all aspects of production, maintenance, warehousing, safety, and team development to meet company goals for quality, efficiency, and employee engagement.

Key Duties and Success Factors

  •  Safety & Compliance:
    • Lead safety initiatives in coordination with HR and Safety Manager
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEQ, EEO, and other regulatory standards
    • Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Monitor and improve product quality in line with company standards
    • Review production metrics and adjust plans to meet cost and quality targets
  • Operational Efficiency:
    • Manage all plant departments and supervisors to ensure smooth operations
    • Optimize use of materials, equipment, and personnel for efficiency
    • Oversee inventory control, warehousing, and distribution activities
  • Budget & Planning:
    • Recommend annual budgets and monitor plant financial performance
    • Analyze costs and implement plans to increase profitability
    • Maintain production, labor, and cost records to support decision-making
  • Training & Development:
    • Mentor and develop supervisors and staff across departments
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback
    • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and accountability
  • Teamwork:
    • Collaborate closely with Sales, Customer Service, HR, and Production teams
    • Assist in labor negotiations and employee relations activities
    • Maintain strong working relationships across the organization

Additional duties may be assigned by management.

 

What You’ll Need to be Successful

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years in corrugated manufacturing or similar industry
    • Minimum 5 years in a leadership/managerial role
    • Preferred: College degree in Business, Engineering, or related field
  • Basic Troubleshooting:
    • Identify and resolve production, labor, and quality issues
    • Utilize data and metrics to drive continuous improvement
  • Skills:
    • Strong technical knowledge of equipment capabilities and production flow
    • Budgeting, cost control, and quality system experience
    • Computer proficiency (MS Office) and ERP system knowledge
  • Certifications:
    • Safety and compliance training preferred (OSHA, ISO, etc.)
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Regularly required to walk, sit, stand, and lift up to 100 lbs
    • Visual capabilities include color, depth, and distance perception

    • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
    • Clear communicator and effective teacher/mentor
    • Calm under pressure with excellent crisis management ability
