About this role

Company Description

PortmanDentex is a leading dental group where your skills and ambitions make a real difference. We support over 370 practices across the UK and Ireland. We’re united by a passion for great dentistry, putting patients first and helping each other grow both at work and beyond.

Job Description

Join us at PortmanDentex as our Health, Safety & Fire Specialist and play a key role in creating safe, supportive environments where our teams can thrive and our patients receive exceptional care. Working closely with our Clinical Governance Team — especially our Head of Health, Safety & Quality — you’ll help us meet our corporate responsibilities while championing a positive, proactive approach to health and safety across the organisation.

In this varied, hands‑on role, you’ll coordinate key projects, support statutory compliance, lead engaging training, and partner with our regional teams to strengthen day‑to‑day safety performance. You’ll also take ownership of safety metrics, track actions, and maintain clear oversight of live issues, ensuring the right information flows smoothly and efficiently.

As the first point of contact for health and safety queries, you’ll provide friendly, practical advice, support incident investigations, and keep essential administration running seamlessly. If you’re someone who enjoys helping others, thrives on collaboration, and wants to grow your career in a caring, people‑first organisation, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact at PortmanDentex.

Qualifications

We welcome your application to our Health, Safety and Fire Specialist vacancy if you have the following qualifications and skills:

  • You may have an Environmental Health degree or be working towards — or already hold — a NEBOSH Diploma. Professional memberships are a bonus, but what really matters is your practical experience and your ability to apply legislation confidently in real‑world situations.
  • A solid understanding of UK health and safety legislation and compliance frameworks, including the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, RIDDOR and CQC requirements.
  • Hands‑on experience carrying out incident investigations, completing risk assessments and using data to spot trends and drive improvement.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to keep centralised documents and records clear, accurate and easy to navigate.
  • Great communication skills, with the confidence to present information and insights to senior leaders in a way that’s clear, engaging and meaningful.
  • Comfortable using IT systems and highly proficient in Excel, with the ability to turn data into simple, visually appealing reports that help others understand what matters.

Additional Information

In addition to a competitive basic salary, our benefits also include:

  • Wellbeing Support: 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme and GP service plus an in-house Mental Health First Aider programme
  • Additional Reward: bonus scheme based on business performance
  • Extra Leave: Birthday off and option to buy 3 more days
  • Family Support: Enhanced maternity/paternity leave
  • Financial Security: Life assurance and pension scheme
