We are looking for highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working as part of a team in a dynamic and entrepreneurial work environment.

Plains is looking to add a Pipeline Facilities Designer to create 2D and 3D models and drawings for oil and gas facilities using AutoCAD and CADWorx. This role executes small-to-large scale CAD project designs, develops company design standards, and ensures compliance with industry codes and company specifications. Responsibilities include advanced 3D modeling, multi-discipline coordination, and oversight of QA/QC processes and partnering with engineering leadership to define design approaches.

This position requires travel to job sites for walkdowns, as-builts, facility planning, and related tasks. The role includes managing a variety of diverse tasks, adapting to shifting priorities, and working on multiple projects simultaneously, often with tight deadlines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partners with Project Engineering Teams, Operations, Tech Services, and other departments as required.
  • Lead development of complex 2D/3D models and drawing packages for projects; ensure deliverables meet company specifications and industry standards.
  • Maintain and update assigned facility drawings through company Management of Change Process using Maximo and Company Electronic Document Management System (Meridian).
  • Follows and contributes to drafting standards and continuous improvement of CAD libraries, templates, and workflows.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline design inputs (mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation) for integrated facility layouts.
  • Oversee incorporation of redlines and revisions; ensure accuracy of record drawings across multiple facilities.
  • Validate design compliance with ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4 and other applicable codes.
  • Manage document control processes in Meridian; ensure proper revision tracking.
  • Support after-hours and weekend requests as needed and carry company phone.
  • Estimated travel requirement is 25%.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Associate degree or higher in a technical discipline (CAD, piping/mechanical technology, civil/structural design, electrical) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive drafting/design experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and CADWorx (2D/3D); skilled in advanced features such as spec editing, clash detection, and x-ref management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ASME B31.3/B31.4 piping codes, material specifications, and industry standards; able to interpret and apply complex design criteria.
  • Proven ability to resolve design conflicts.
  • Capable of prioritizing and delivering multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Experience developing and enforcing drafting and design standards and best practices.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows OS and Electronic Document Management Systems (e.g., Meridian).
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
