Pfizer BioMedicine Design group at San Diego, CA is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Associate Scientist with training in protein biochemistry to join a dynamic team in antibody discovery, optimization, and production. This role requires good understanding and hands-on skills in protein/antibody production and engineering.

What You Will Achieve

In this role, you will:

  • Work within a team on various antibody identification, optimization, and/or production projects in parallel.
  • Maintain mammalian cell culture and execute various transient expression methods.
  • Implement molecular biology methods such as reformatting scFv to IgG and other modalities.
  • Implement protein purification methods to isolate IgG, fusion proteins and antigens from mammalian cell culture.
  • Analyze proteins using standard protein characterization methods.
  • Design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot when issues arise, under supervision.
  • Present experimental design and results at internal meetings.
  • Accomplish goals under project team timelines.

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements):

  • B.S or M.S in Biological Science (Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology) or a related field (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Biological Engineering)
  • B.S or M.S with 0-2 years of relevant experience in either an academic or industrial setting.
  • Familiar with tissue-culture sterile techniques and mammalian cell culture.
  • Understand principles and able to execute modern molecular biology techniques, preferred in antibody engineering field.
  • Understand principles and able to execute modern protein purification techniques, preferred in antibody engineering field.
  • Detail-oriented, document data and experiments properly, good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced interdisciplinary scientific team and the desire to learn new techniques.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements):

  • Previous experience with protein and/or antibody engineering
  • Previous experience with suspension mammalian cell culture and transient expression
  • Previous experience with molecular cloning techniques (primer design, PCR, gel extraction, restriction/homology cloning), sequence confirmation, and plasmid preparation
  • Previous experience with protein purification (protein A/G affinity, IMAC, size exclusion, ion exchange chromatography) and protein characterization methods, including SDS-PAGE/cGE, aSEC, mass spec, endotoxin measurement.

Work Location Assignment: On Premise


The annual base salary for this position ranges from $60,200.00 to $97,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
